I was walking down my street the other day and was for some reason paying attention to the surface of the roadway. I noticed all the places where the utility companies had cut into the road to make their repairs. I also noticed markings on the road’s surface in spray paint marking out where the gas, sewer, and water lines crossed the road. This all brought back a memory for me that is about 11 years old.
I’ve made no secret of the fact that organized labor is a problem in my opinion. I say this as a former local President of a prominent manufacturing union in the United States. I’ve seen the lack of action of the international body when their action needed and their pushing of candidates who ultimately dropped out of Presidential races and Congressional races after they took the union’s PAC money. I’ve read the literature promoting political candidates and political positions which work in conflict with the retention of jobs.
All this being known up front, let me tell you a story of something that happed BEFORE I ever took a union job.
I was working as a store manager of a major national electronics retailer during the day and as a bartender at night. I had purposely scheduled myself off on a particular day because I knew that I wasn’t needed at my night job and would have a whole day to rest. A week before, the state had just completed a major resurfacing of the road I lived on at the time and I knew that there should be no reason for my late morning sleep to be interrupted by loud equipment.
At this time I lived in a sleepy bedroom community in NE Ohio. So normal traffic wouldn’t have been an issue either in spite of the fact I lived on a major state highway. But at 7:00 am, on the only morning in weeks that I had to sleep in, a jackhammer shook me out of my bed. The water company was cutting into the freshly laid roadway right in front of my house. I gathered myself, dressed, and went outside to ask the supervisor why they didn’t do whatever work they were doing when the road was torn apart. He informed me that they had their own paving crews and any work that they do where they have to dig, they have got to be employed to resurface that area per union agreement.
In other words, because of their union rules, the water company ripped open a brand new road to change out some pipes or whatever they were doing, just so that their paving crew had something to do. That to me seems a bit stupid and a waste of taxpayers money.
By cutting into the road after it has cured, the water company has undermined the integrity of the road just so their paving crews would have something to do. That means the road wouldn’t last as long as it could have had it not been touched and the taxpayers would have to foot the bill for a resurfacing earlier than expected when the engineers surveyed the work.
So as I inspected the road surface while walking down the street the other day, I couldn’t help but think of that pompous field supervisor that told this to me 11 years ago.
Oh, and just so you know, they have no obligation to tell you that they are going to use loud equipment to cut into that road either. They can just pull up, any time of the day or night (in the event of an emergency) and cut into the road shaking you out of bed and they don’t have to tell you. I was told the only time they have to inform you of their work is if your service is going to be disrupted. Nice huh.
Perhaps it’s his exposure to a member of the Kennedy clan or perhaps it is that he has been steadily drifting to the left since winning his first term as governor of California, but why is Arnold supporting Juan MexiCain for President? I think that it has something to do with a position that MexiCain took in May of 2007.
According to On the Issues, Juan MexiCain supports, “Change rule barring immigrants from running for president.” It’s no secret that Arnold supporters have advocated this very thing since the Governator won his first term. Perhaps Arnold sees McCain as someone who can pave the path for a potential run himself. I sense a conspiracy.
Mike “The Huckster” Huckabee’s obstinate obsession with staying in a race for a nomination that he cannot win could hand the nomination to someone that would damage our party beyond repair. Every vote for The Huckster is a vote for MexiCain. The media is discounting The Huckster just as they have discounted Ron Paul and Dennis Kucinich from the beginning. He is a non-entity at this point with no real chance at winning the nomination but yet he still hangs on. This is fueling speculation among the Conservative base that he may be a shill for MexiCain. He knows that he cannot win and he knows that he is drawing some voters from Romney who he hates. This all being the truth, he is willing to hand the nomination to an individual who has made a career out of thumbing his nose at the very party he claims to be a member of. What other explanation is there for The Hucksters actions?
I will go on record now saying that if MexiCain becomes the nominee of my party, I’ll vote Democrat in the General election. Why? Because this country would have earned what we get. The depression that will ensue will be due to the Republican Party nominating someone who cannot be distinguished as any different than the Democrats. If we have a choice between a Democrat and a RINO, might as well vote for the genuine article I say.
Voters you have to wake up to the truth. If you are a social Conservative, at this point you only have one choice. Romney. If you are an economic Conservative, at this point you only have one choice. Romney. If you are a national security Conservative, you do have a choice because voting for MexiCain will hand the Dems a victory on social and economic issues. If you wish to lower taxes, MexiCain is not your man. If you wish to control spending, again, MexiCain is not your man. He talks a good talk, but his record says a different tune.
And let me be clear on this, each and every vote for The Huckster is a vote for MexiCain.
Some of you Huckster backers out there consider yourself social Conservatives. Don’t let Huckster’s evangelical rhetoric sway you. His anti-Mormon bigotry is no different than being a racist. Remember we live in a nation that protects religious freedom and your support of Huckster is a support of his bigotry.
I too am no fan of Romney’s religion. But as a Roman Catholic Huckster despises me just as much as he despises Romney. His religious background affords him no choice but to be single minded in his bigotry. As a Roman Catholic the biggest issue which sways my vote is the candidate’s stance on abortion. At this point, Romney’s position on abortion is acceptable. He is taking the Fred Thompson federalist approach which is overturn Roe v Wade and send it back to the states where the issue always belonged.
As an economic Conservative I feel more comfortable voting for someone who believes that the Bush tax cuts should be made permanent. MexiCain opposed the Bush tax cuts but now says they ought to be made permanent. Makes you wonder how genuine that desire is. Mike Huckabee says now he’s on board with The Fair Tax, but his record shows a tendency to raise taxes. Especially in the quest to institute a nanny state. Huckster would use the tax system to enforce nanny state policies against smokers, drinkers, and transfats. Do you want the President and the federal government tell you that you can’t eat that burger, smoke that cigarette, or have that drink? I don’t and I’m not even a smoker.
Evangelical Conservatives wake the hell up. The man you are backing is going to turn on you when he successfully beats down the only viable Conservative left in this race. When it looks like Romney cannot secure the nomination, Huckster will bow out and throw his support behind MexiCain. Is that what you truly want? Use your head, that’s the lump 3 feet above your ass.
People the choices are simple, MexiCain or Romney. That’s it. Any other considerations during your time in the voting booth are votes to support MexiCain. Under a MexiCain Presidency we would have an open border policy that would increase the number of illegals invading our country exponentially. Instead of 12-20 million illegals in this country try 40-50 million. If you think it is difficult to find a job that pays a livable wage now, elect MexiCain.
And one last time. Each and every vote for Huckster is a vote for MexiCain.
Since the people of Florida decided last night to make Senator Juan MexiCain the GOP front runner, I thought it was prudent to discuss Juan’s positions on Immigration.
* Do everything I can to help all immigrants learn English. (Dec 2007) * Illegal immigrants are God’s children as well. (Nov 2007) * 12 million illegals in country now is de facto amnesty. * English immersion over bilingual education. (Jul 2001) * Rated 18% by USBC, indicating an open-border stance. (Dec 2006)
Friends, the emphasized passages show where Juan MexiCain is in conflict with Conservatives. Is this what you want in your new President? I sure as hell don’t.
We need a President who will stop the flow of illegal aliens into this country first. Someone who would support the ability for the states and communities to rid the nation of illegals by passing legislation which would make it more difficult for these people to work and live in this country. These illegals will leave on their own if they can’t find work or a place to live. We’re seeing it in Juan’s home state of Arizona. Now we need it implemented nation wide.
All the news agencies began to declare the winner in Florida with only 55% of the precincts reporting. Now isn’t the time to debate the validity of microsampling but that said, it seems that Sen. MexiCain as one of my compatriots called him won the Sunshine State.
Rudy Giuliani who put all of his eggs in Florida’s basket failed to finish strong and is expected to drop out. In his post election address to his supporters, he spoke of his campaign in past tense fueling the speculation that he is going to drop. Insiders are saying that Rudy is in “negotiations” with the MexiCain camp for his endorsement. This I find interesting because the only reason to negotiate is if he is looking for a VP designation or a promised cabinet post should MexiCain win the General. To that I’m saying that I think that they are both beginning to count chickens before the eggs are even laid.
It is my belief that the Nomination will not be determined until late March, maybe April, or possibly even May. I think that Super Tuesday will be a split and with the Huckster vowing to stay in “until the 9th inning” the delegate count might get interesting.
To me the only choice for Conservatives, I mean real Conservatives, is Mitt Romney. I’ve been saying that I am reserving my official endorsement of anyone until after Super Tuesday. But as I begin to see it play out it is my belief that unless I put my 1/50th of a dollar in this mess in order to insure that I’ve said all that I can to prevent MexiCain from gaining the Nomination.
Mitt is on the right side of all the big issues. True he’s changed position of abortion, but so has millions of Americans. Jane Roe, Norma McCorvey, has changed her position. So why can’t Mitt?
The news reports are abuzz of liberals trying to convince Slick Billy Bob Bubba to take a step back from his campaigning efforts. Major Democrat leaders are abandoning Hillary in favor of Barack Obama solely based on the former Philanderer-in-Chief’s recent statements confronting Barack Obama.
Like lovers scorned, Bill Clinton’s longtime liberal supporters are walking out on him, slamming the door behind them and rebuking the 42nd president for his behavior leading up to last weekend’s South Carolina primary.
Clinton’s base seems to be eroding fast as liberal Democratic stalwarts join up with Barack Obama, whose message of change seems now to apply not only to the Bush Administration of the last seven years, but the eight-year Clinton Administration that preceded it.
Obama’s biggest “get” was Sen. Ted Kennedy, who abandoned his neutrality in the presidential race and endorsed Obama over Hillary Clinton on Monday. While Obama insists the Massachusetts senator’s endorsement was not a repudiation of anyone, it was clear that Kennedy – along with his niece Caroline Kennedy and son Rep. Patrick Kennedy — had reached beyond the Clintons to pass the mantle of the Democratic party’s liberal wing to Obama.
In other words, Slick Billy Bob Bubba has been squandering his legacy and alienating his base of politically apathetic American lemmings* who have in the past seen his Infestation as a success. He and his wife counted on the support generated by his false legacy in order to walk their way into a second Clintonian Infestation. Well it seems Slick Billy Bob Bubba… BLEW IT! And he did it to himself. Nothing can be more funny.
And while the Kennedys may open the floodgates, they were hardly the first liberals to abandon the Clintons for Obama. In recent weeks the Clintons have watched many of their supporters drift to the young senator from Illinois.
Former Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle, Vermont Sen. Patrick Leahy and Massachusetts Sen. John Kerry, the Democrats’ 2004 presidential candidate, endorsed Obama recently. On Tuesday, Kansas Gov. Kathleen Sebelius climbed aboard, the morning after she delivered the Democrats’ rebuttal speech to President Bush’s State of the Union address.
Even novelist Toni Morrison, who once called Bill Clinton the “first black president,” has come out for Obama.
Not that I personally put much stock in the persons named in the FoxNews article, but to the politically apathetic American lemming*, these are major influences because, as we all know, they lack the ability to form an opinion on their own.
Liberal criticism of the Clintons has come from inside and outside the Beltway, from former supporters and colleagues. It ranges from the thinly veiled to the blatant:
Robert Reich, former Clinton labor secretary, on his personal blog: “Bill Clinton’s ill-tempered and ill-founded attacks on Barack Obama are doing no credit to the former President, his legacy, or his wife’s campaign. Nor are they helping the Democratic party … Now, sadly, we’re witnessing a smear campaign against Obama that employs some of the worst aspects of the old politics.”
Leahy: “He is not helping anyone, and certainly not helping the Democratic Party.” (The Washington Post)
Columnist Nicholas von Hoffman: “By the time Hillary and Bill have finished with Obama the real man may be unrecognizable to voters in Iowa or any place else … If he can wipe enough of the Clintonian slime off himself, Obama may be able to come out from under and explain to the world that sometimes less experience is more and better.” (The Nation)
Columnist/Editor Jonathan Chait: “Am I starting to sound like a Clinton hater? It’s a scary thought. Of course, to conservatives, it’s a delicious thought. The Wall Street Journal published a gloating editorial noting that liberals had suddenly learned “what everyone else already knows about the Clintons.” (By “everyone,” it means Republicans.) It made me wonder: Were the conservatives right about Bill Clinton all along?” (The Los Angeles Times).
Columnist Maureen Dowd: “It’s odd that the first woman with a shot at becoming president is so openly dependent on her husband to drag her over the finish line. She handed over South Carolina to him, knowing that her support here is largely derivative.” (The New York Times)
E.J. Dionne Jr.: “That’s why the Clintons’ assault on Obama is so depressing. In many ways, Obama is running the 2008 version of the 1992 Clinton campaign. You have the feeling that if Bill Clinton did not have another candidate in this contest, he’d be advising Obama and cheering him on.” (The Washington Post)
Al Sharpton: “But I think that it’s time for him to just be quiet. I think it’s time for him to stop. As one of the most outspoken people in America, there is a time to shut up, and I think that time has come.” (On The View)
Kerry: “I think you had an abuse of the truth … I mean, being an ex-president does not give you license to abuse the truth, and I think that over the last few days it’s been over the top.” (On National Journal radio)
Daschle: “… this backbiting, bitter give-and-take that we’re beginning to see more and more of, especially from the Clinton campaign. It’s wrong. Everybody know it’s wrong and it’s got to stop … It’s not presidential. It’s not in keeping with the image of a former president.”
Ted Kennedy: “With Barack Obama, we will turn the page on the old politics of misrepresentation and distortion.”
Though the Clintons have been staring at a lot of backs recently, it’s not a full-scale rebellion. As Ted, Caroline and Patrick Kennedy endorsed Obama, three other Kennedys endorsed Clinton.
In a newspaper column Tuesday, Kathleen Kennedy Townsend (former Maryland lieutenant governor), Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Kerry Kennedy wrote:
“We believe that [Hillary Clinton] is the strongest candidate for our party and our country.” They invoked President Kennedy’s ideals and the desire to give voice to the voiceless as they described Hillary Clinton.
The column made no mention of the candidate’s husband.
I find it comical that liberals who would have at one time been willing to follow Slick Billy Bob Bubba into the abyss of hell are now backing away from him like a leper. Remember that most of these people fought to acquit Slick Billy Bob Bubba in his impeachment. These people all knew that he lied under oath in his deposition, which I must remind you is why he was being impeached.
The struggle within the Democrat Party is only doing one thing, aiding the efforts for the eventual Republican Nominee. Barack Obama hasn’t the experience to run this country. He has only served 3 years in the Senate. He’s never been in the House, never served as a governor, never as a mayor of a major city, and he never took the helm of a major corporation. He is nothing more than a lawyer who has had the ambition to become President of the United States since he was a teenager. He is riding a wave created by the designation of being the first viable black candidate. Unfortunately for him, if he is elected, he will be doomed to Jimmy Carter Syndrom.
I’ve said this before and I will say it again…
Is this nation ready for a woman President? Yes but not her.
Is this nation ready for a black President? Yes but not him.
With President George W. Bush’s final State of the Union Address coming tonight, it would be prudent to pay a little attention to a common misconception dominant in the minds of the politically apathetic American lemming*, namely “Bush lied about Iraq’s WMD’s”. There is no evidence that President George W. Bush lied about anything. Did he act on incomplete or inaccurate data? I think that is a more accurate explanation rather than the blanket indictment that has been allowed to ferment and rot the minds of those politically apathetic American lemmings* for the past 4 1/2 years.
Dinesh D’Souza of the Hoover Institute has written a post at TownHall.com that deals with this very topic. He says in summary…
As a statesman, he had to act in the moving current of events. He didn’t have the luxury of hindsight. To those leftist pundits who say, “Knowing what we know now, President Bush, why did you do what you did then?” Bush’s answer is, “Obviously I didn’t know what we know now.” Acting against the somber backdrop of 9/11, Bush made a hard call based on an assessment of the intelligence provided to him.
He may have acted in haste, and he may have acted in error. But even this is not so clear. Do you recall recent reports from the CIA that Iran stopped working on its nuclear program in 2003? The reports were interpreted as a reversal for the Bush administration, because Bush has allegedly been trying to raise public concerns about Iran’s nuclear program. But many people forgot to ask why Iran’s mullahs decided to suspend their nuclear program in 2003. That happens to be the time that America invaded Iraq. So it’s quite possible that the Iranian mullahs were deterred from their nuclear ambitions because of the fear that the U.S. military might call on them next.
Whatever you think of this analysis, there is no evidence that Bush made his decision about the Iraq war in bad faith. Therefore the claim that Bush lied is itself a lie.
Something that even Mr. D’Souza doesn’t even mention is that Saddam Hussein allowed the illusion of his chemical weapons program to continue in order to keep Iran from invading Iraq. This was the costly mistake on Hussein’s part which led to his nation being invaded by the most powerful and best trained military power the world has ever known. This little tidbit has a lot to do with the inaccuracy of the intelligence that led to the US led invasion in 2003. So, the next time one of these politically apathetic American lemmings starts in with “Bush lied” etc… Remember these facts and counter the mental midget with them.
A lie is only a lie, if and only if, the person telling the falsehood knows his/her statement is false.
[This section added a few hours after initial publication]
An actual Presidential lie:
Now, I have to go back to work on my State of the Union speech. And I worked on it until pretty late last night. But I want to say one thing to the American people. I want you to listen to me. I’m going to say this again. I did not have sexual relations with that woman, Miss Lewinsky. I never told anybody to lie, not a single time – never. These allegations are false. And I need to go back to work for the American people. – Slick Billy Bob Bubba January 29, 1998
And he admitted his lie…
As you know, in a deposition in January, I was asked questions about my relationship with Monica Lewinsky. While my answers were legally accurate, I did not volunteer information. Indeed, I did have a relationship with Ms. Lewinsky that was not appropriate. In fact, it was wrong. It constituted a critical lapse in judgment and a personal failure on my part for which I am solely and completely responsible. – Slick Billy Bob Bubba August 17, 1998
This is an example of an actual lie because Slick Billy Bob Bubba knew when he said, “I did not have sexual relations with that woman, Miss Lewinsky” that he did have sexual relations with her. We know this because the former Philanderer-in-Chief admitted it himself.
And to be honest, it in itself is a lie as well. Slick Billy Bob Bubba said, “As you know, in a deposition in January, I was asked questions about my relationship with Monica Lewinsky. While my answers were legally accurate, I did not volunteer information.” Well that is not what the deposition reveals.
Q. Did you have an extramarital sexual affair with Monica Lewinsky?
A. No.
Q. If she told someone that she had a sexual affair with you beginning in November of 1995, would that be a lie?
A. It’s certainly not the truth. It would not be the truth.
Q. I think I used the term “sexual affair.” And so the record is completely clear, have you ever had sexual relations with Monica Lewinsky, as that term is defined in Deposition Exhibit 1, as modified by the Court.
A. I have never had sexual relations with Monica Lewinsky. I’ve never had an affair with her.
That doesn’t seem so legally accurate when he said himself on national television that he did have “a relationship with Miss Lewinsky that was not appropriate.”
Again… A lie is only a lie, if and only if, the person telling the falsehood knows his/her statement is false.
Anyone trying to say that Mr. Bush’s actions based on inaccurate intelligence constitutes a lie is lying to themselves and those who their attempting to pollute the thought processes of. Liberalism is the most contagious mental disorder known to man. The only cure for this madness is to be informed of the truth and avoidance of the fiction distributed by the MSM and organizations such as the ACLU, NOW, organized labor, MoveOn.org and other institutions of stupidity.
*Politically apathetic American lemming: (n) An individual who for the most part pays no attention to the actual political workings of this nation, has no grasp as to what is actually written in the US Constitution, and would rather allow their political leanings to be hand fed to them via the liberal MSM, organized labor, the ACLU, NOW, MoveOn.org, et al which utilize class envy and class warfare to fuel and perpetuate the movement of this nation toward socialism through ignorance of fact.
If is the biggest 2-letter word in the dictionary. Hind sight being 20/20 and all, one must ask the question “what if” as one reflects upon one’s life. One choice made one way instead of the other could lead a life down an entirely different path.
For instance, would Sen. Joe Lieberman have backed Sen. John McCain had his own party not thrown him under the proverbial bus in 2006? And if not, would Sen. McCain still be in the hunt to secure the GOP Nomination for President of the United States?
What if Sen. Fred Thompson had jumped into the race for the GOP Nomination with the so-called fire in the belly that he seemed to portray in the last 30 days of his candidacy? Would he still be in?
What if FredHeads like me decided to abstain from the nominating process post South Carolina and not back any of the remaining candidates? Would Mitt Romney be seeing the resurgence in his Florida campaign? Would Rudy be 4th in the polls?
These questions may never get answered but it is worth contemplating… What if?
House Minority Leader John Boehner (D OH-8) informs Republicans that in order for the GOP to regain the majority, it will take some sacrifices on their part. The first of which is a 1 year moratorium on earmarks for all Republicans. He also is advocating the creation of a panel to review the process according to The Politico “including the abuses that have occurred, and a litany of smaller guidelines to curtail wasteful earmarks or member-requested projects that benefit campaign contributors or other private entities.”
A simple solution to this whole problem is out there. How about attaching members names directly to the earmark being proposed. At this time, the leadership in the House does its best to prevent the release of the proposing member’s name. The earmark process is broken because it does not include the American people.
Boehner goes on the record telling fellow Republicans,
“We’re here today to ask ourselves: Are Republicans the party that can fix Washington?” Boehner asked his members Friday morning, according to excerpts of his speech. “If so, what sacrifices are we willing to make to PROVE we are that party? We cannot do this without being bold and putting forth fresh solutions.”
“The American people believe Washington is broken. Middle class families see the cost of living rising. They see more and more of their hard earned dollars being eaten up by college costs, health care costs, housing costs, food costs.”
“With all this happening in their daily lives, they’re watching the news — and they see politicians in Washington WASTING their money. While families are struggling to make ends meet, they look up and see politicians using taxpayer money to build monuments to themselves … funding hippie museums … letting entitlement spending spiral out of control. ”
“Our mission is simple, if we choose to accept it: show the American people we’re different. Americans believe Washington is broken. They’re right. We need to show them we’re ready to fix it. The mission is simple — but that doesn’t mean the mission is EASY. ”
“We’re here today to ask ourselves: Are Republicans the party that can fix Washington? If so, what sacrifices are we willing to make to PROVE we are that party? We cannot do this without being bold and putting forth fresh solutions. ”
“In 1994 we made sacrifices. We gave up perks. We gave up privileges. We took risks. We thought big. We rolled dice. We need to go through this process today and tomorrow with the same mentality.”
“If we woke up suddenly tomorrow and found ourselves in the majority, would we be any different? How would we be different from the Republicans of the past AND the Democrats of the present? If we can’t answer these questions for Americans over the course of the next year, we will stay in the minority. ”
“If we’re going to pick up seats in 2008, we have to strike a chord in the hearts of the American people — our base, and Republican-leaning independents alike. We cannot win by singing the same old tune. Washington is broken. We need to give the American people reasons to believe we’ll fix it. ”
“We’re not starting from scratch. We had a good year last year. In 2006 we warned the American people a Democratic Congress would be like this: a majority devoted to higher taxes, bigger government, and retreat. In 2007 we gave the American people reasons to believe we were right. We showed that the Democrats are exactly who we thought they’d be. This is something we can build on. Our challenge in 2008 is to give Americans reasons to believe we’ll be different. ”
“Our goal is to walk out of here Saturday with a sense of unity on the BIG reforms we’re going to drive together in 2008 … our common agenda … our “reasons to believe.” We need an agenda worthy of us — an agenda that takes the best of what we have to offer, and pushes it forward. We need an agenda that gives Americans reasons to believe Republicans will fix Washington. We need an agenda that gives Americans a reason to believe we’re different from the Republicans of the past, and the Democrats of the present. It all starts here … now.”
He’s right, we did tell the American people in 2006 what would happen should they elect Democrats to the majority and what we said then has happened. Without reform however, the same old problem will continue to be pervasive.
A democracy can only survive as long as the people do not begin to use their vote to vote themselves money from the national treasure. This is a fact.
On that topic, The United States was never supposed to be a democracy. With the adoption of the 17th Amendment to the United States Constitution the states abdicated their role in the national government and created the democracy that wasn’t supposed to exist. Originally Senators were selected by the state legislatures for a reason. To make the Senate accountable directly to the states. By removing the accountability to the states, those who pushed through the amendment effectively turned The United States into the democracy that we are not supposed to be putting us on the path to ruin.
If this country does not get a handle on earmarks and entitlement spending we are doomed to the failure that all democracies are. We need a reversal of sorts. We need to return to the federalist principles that this nation was built upon. Will Republicans do it? I hope and pray so.
Illinois Senator Barack Obama won the South Carolina Democrat Primary in a landslide defeating Senator Hillary Clinton (D NY) and former Senator John Edwards (D NC) 55% to 27% and 18% respectively. This victory in South Carolina narrows the gap between Sen. Clinton and Sen. Obama in the hunt for delegates.
With 2,025 delegates at stake in this race, there seems to be some discrepancy in the current count. According to ABC News Clinton leads Obama the delegate count 222 to 179 while CNN has the count 230-152. Both have Clinton leading the race, but the question is, by how much?
One explanation could be that CNN is using projected delegate counts in races that haven’t been conducted yet. For instance, Illinois is a Super Tuesday race but yet CNN has 20 delegates awarded to Barack Obama. They are also awarding 39 delegates for Clinton in New York another Super Tuesday event.
Both news agencies are Democrat friendly and both have been especially gracious to Sen. Clinton and Slick Billy Bob Bubba traditionally. Could this have anything to do with the discrepancy? Possibly.
The discrepancy lies in the allocation of delegates by state. In South Carolina alone there is a major difference. ABC is awarding Barack Obama 25 delegates, Hillary Clinton 12 delegates. and John Edwards 8. CNN on the other hand is awarding Obama 26, Clinton 14, and Edwards 8. Which leads me to believe that if nothing changes and the candidates continue to split states as they are, the Democrat Nomination may be just as big a question going into the Convention as the GOP may be. If not bigger.
It won’t be long before The Breck Girl John Edwards drops out of the race. That shark will drop out due to a deal made with one of the two camps. Speculation by Robert Novak, former CNN analyst and Syndicated columnist this weekend suggests that Edwards may drop in favor of being Obama’s designee for Attorney General of the United States should he win the White House in November.
Illinois Democrats close to Sen. Barack Obama are quietly passing the word that John Edwards will be named attorney general in an Obama administration.
This begs a question about both the Obama and Clinton camps. Who will the candidates select as a running mate if Novak’s sources are correct? It was widely thought that Edwards may end up as the second seater to the eventual Nominee but he has gone out on a limb to tear down Clinton. It also begs the question, if Edwards would be the AG designee under a hypothetical President Elect Barack Obama, why then would Edwards team up with Clinton the other night in the debate against Obama? The Democrat scorecard is reading like a daytime soap opera. Who is in bed with who?
According to Rasmussen Reports, the breakdown of the South Carolina Primary is as follows (according to exit polling of course).
Among…
Africa-Americans – “Obama defeated Hillary Clinton 80% to 18% among African-Americans (the final Rasmussen Reports poll of the race showed Obama leading 68% to 16% among African-Americans).”
Whites – “John Edwards and Clinton each attracted 38% of white voters in South Carolina while Obama picked up 24%.”
“Among white male voters, Clinton was especially weak and picked up just 29% of that vote. Obama earned the votes from 27% of white males while John Edwards won 44%.”
“Clinton did best among white women, winning 44% of their votes. However, just 17% of African-American women supported the former First Lady.”
Seniors – “Clinton also won among senior citizens leading Obama 40% to 32%. Obama picked up a majority of all voters under 65 and defeated Clinton by a more than two-to-one margin.”
“Obama won among all income, ideological, and education groups.”
Part of this soap opera is the CNN polling. It could artificially keep Edwards in the race longer than he should be. All the Dem candidates put misplaced stock in CNN and they could take the projections made by CNN as gospel. We all know that at this stage of the game John Edwards has about as much chance to be the Democrat Nominee as Ron Paul does on the GOP side. But it is possible that he may be sticking around to see which camp plays out and which camp will see him as the bigger help. He may be attempting to trade up from AG to VP.
I was walking down my street the other day and was for some reason paying attention to the surface of the roadway. I noticed all the places where the utility companies had cut into the road to make their repairs. I also noticed markings on the road’s surface in spray paint marking out where the [...]
Perhaps it’s his exposure to a member of the Kennedy clan or perhaps it is that he has been steadily drifting to the left since winning his first term as governor of California, but why is Arnold supporting Juan MexiCain for President? I think that it has something to do with a position that MexiCain [...]
Mike “The Huckster” Huckabee’s obstinate obsession with staying in a race for a nomination that he cannot win could hand the nomination to someone that would damage our party beyond repair. Every vote for The Huckster is a vote for MexiCain. The media is discounting The Huckster just as they have discounted Ron Paul and [...]
Since the people of Florida decided last night to make Senator Juan MexiCain the GOP front runner, I thought it was prudent to discuss Juan’s positions on Immigration.
According to On the Issues:
* Do everything I can to help all immigrants learn English. (Dec 2007)
* Illegal immigrants [...]
All the news agencies began to declare the winner in Florida with only 55% of the precincts reporting. Now isn’t the time to debate the validity of microsampling but that said, it seems that Sen. MexiCain as one of my compatriots called him won the Sunshine State.
Rudy Giuliani who put all of his eggs in [...]

Did [...]
John [...]
House Minority Leader John Boehner (D OH-8) informs Republicans that in order for the GOP to regain the majority, it will take some sacrifices on their part. The first of which is a 1 year moratorium on earmarks for all Republicans. He also is advocating the creation of a panel to review the process according [...]
With 2,025 delegates at stake [...]
