Obama In Trouble… And It’s Not From Hillary

Illinois Senator and Democrat Presidential Candidate for his Party’s Nomination Barack Obama has finally made what could turn out to be a major boo-boo. It seems that his campaign slogan “Change Rocks” is a registered trademark. That’s right, he may be guilty of trademark infringement for using the term.

It seems that U.S. trademark No. 3,266,236 belongs to Stefan Doyno, a Scarsdale, N.Y. resident who makes jewelry products (rings and pendants) under the trademarked name “Change Rocks”. Senator Obama’s campaign used the slogan “Change Rocks” to promote a rock concert and fund-raiser on December 7, 2007. Oops. That might cost Mr. Obama a few duckets because as they say, you can’t un-crack the egg and the egg is all over Obama’s face.

Scarsdale, NY is a heavily Democratic district and it may be in the best interest to cut a deal with the young entrepreneur.

Once Doyno realized his trademark was being used illegally by the Obama campaign he contacted his attorney who sent a letter to Obama’s National Campaign Manager David Plouffe. This happened before Christmas but yet the young man has yet to be granted relief.

Should Obama realize his error, even if he wasn’t aware that there was an error, and make this young man whole, perhaps he will have gained a supporter. But his foot dragging only proves that he doesn’t care if he stepped out of line. Perhaps it will take legal action in a court of law to protect this young man’s property rights.

It may be wise for Mr. Doyno to consider seriously which party would best represent his interests as a small business owner.
