Castro Steps Down
Cuban Dictator Fidel Castro has officially resigned as President and will not accept another term as Cuba’s President.
From FoxNews:
“I will not aspire nor accept — I repeat I will not aspire or accept — the post of President of the Council of State and Commander in Chief,” read the letter signed by Castro and published quietly overnight without advance warning in the online edition of the Communist Party daily Granma.
81 year old Castro assumed power on New Year’s Day 1959 and has held absolute power in the Communist Island nation until July of 2006 when he ceded power to his brother Raul. Raul is just 5 years Fidel’s junior.
It must be serious if Fidel won’t try to regain power. Perhaps he knows of his impending death? Could it be that he has cancer for smoking those Havanas all the time?
The Cuban community here in the United States are happy today over this news I’ll bet.
