Is Obama Done?

March 16, 2008 Election 2008, News, Opinion, Presidential Candidates View Comments

He may be. I’m not saying this because I favor a match up with Hillary over Obama but this dust up with Pastor Wright at the center may be too damaging for Obama to overcome. The DNC cannot afford to nominate this man if he cannot overcome this controversy by the General. And I don’t think he can.

Juan Williams had this to say on FoxNews Sunday. Video hat-tip to Jay at Stop the ACLU:

As I stated in a comment at Stop the ACLU, I think that this is the most honest that I’ve ever seen Juan Williams. I also think that this is the longest that he has ever spoken on one of these panels without being rebutted by another member of the panel. Usually Brit Hume knocks his rhetoric back down to reality but in this video, Brit stayed real silent.

Direct Democracy has the following truths to tell about Obama:

Once in the Senate, he found a couple of other prominent supporters who were anxious to tear down the Clintons and, lo and behold, the first term Senator was running for president, in spite of earlier promising he would complete his first term and admitting he was too inexperienced to seek national office.

And, the funny thing is, he came so close. Riding on his oratorical skills and the backing of one of the wealthiest media magnates in the world, he put together a coalition of African Americans and and upper-income voters. Despite receiving a minority of votes cast by whites, Latinos, and Asians, and losing 7 of the largest 8 states in the nation (all except his home state of Illinois), his big margins in some Southern States and midwestern caucus states gave him a decent lead in delegates over Hillary Clinton. By stalling efforts at a revote in Florida, he looked like he had a good chance of keeping his lead in delegates and popular votes into the Democratic convention, where he and his supporters could extortion votes from remaining Super Delegates by threatening not to support Hillary Clinton if nominated.

Then there is the Rezko trial, the Farrakhan endorsement, and now this. His first denunciation of Wright came from a surrogate. His second was a wishy washy distancing in a Fox News Channel interview. And his third attempt was vague. Not until the third attempt at rebuking Wright’s comments did the campaign either through direct termination or through a resignation distance itself in a meaningful way from race baiter Wright.

Direct Democracy addresses that as well.

Obama attempted to rescue himself by criticizing Wright’s remarks, dropping Wright from the campaign’s African American religious committee, and implying that he was not aware of these stands until recently. However, given that Obama had attended Wright’s church for 20 years, been married by him, had his children baptized by him, donated tens of thousands of dollars per year to his church, and lauded him in his book, Audacity of Hope (appropriately named for one of Wright’s slogans), the public wasn’t buying it.

From there the DD article become speculative but plausible. Let us hope, for the sake of this nation, that DD is right and Obama will eventually be seen as a pariah in this nation. If he were Republican, the attacks from the media wouldn’t cease until November 5th. I’m wondering now when they will begin since it is the media’s darling?
