In an Investors Business Daily editorial leads one to believe that Barack Hussein Obama says on his website, “a strong proponent of tougher measures to fight crime” but I couldn’t find anywhere on the Obama 08 site where crime and punishment are addressed. I’d like to know where the writer got the info so I can see for myself where Barack Hussein Obama buried that fiction.
I say fiction because according to the IBD editorial Obama is far from what the quote says.
From IBD:
As an Illinois state senator, for example, he acted more as a friend to criminals than to cops, legislating among other things:
Curbs on what he called a “broken” death penalty system. A measure to expunge some criminal records and give job grants to ex-cons. Tougher handgun controls. A vote against making gang members eligible for the death penalty if they kill someone to help their gang. Opposition to a bill requiring juveniles to be prosecuted as adults for firing a gun at or near a school. At the federal level, Obama would:
Repeal “unfair” mandatory sentences for crack convictions. Provide drug counseling instead of jail time for some abusers. Rethink criminal penalties for pot. Ban profiling by federal law enforcement, even if it helps catch violent criminals including terrorists. Strengthen hate-crime laws and beef up civil rights enforcement against police chiefs who profile. Provide job training, drug rehab and counseling for ex-cons. “Re-enfranchise” felons denied the right to vote.
He wants to repeal the “unfair” mandatory sentences for crack convictions? Why because he’s used the drug? Or could it be that he still cracks up once in a while and don’t want to get thrown into the jug himself?
Crack is THE most addicting street drug. Why in the world would he not want to get that garbage off the street? Oh wait, he’s reportedly been a user of that garbage. Alterer motive? I think maybe.
Counseling does not work. Especially if a crime is being committed. It is illegal to posses, sell, or use substances such as crack, heroin, methamphetamine, marijuana, prescription drugs without a prescription, etc… Doing so is a crime that needs to be punished. No amount of counseling alone will solve this vile problem. The shock value of hard time may, in coordination with some counseling, be enough to motivate the abuser to end his cycle of self-destruction. Without the motivation the cycle will not stop.
Where would Obama draw the line? Just users? Or would he include traffickers? The pushers who sell this crap to children. Would he excuse these vile wastes of human flesh to counseling? I understand that we must address the problem of demand as well as supply, but lighter sentences or counseling for drug offenses are a step toward permissiveness that would lead to legalization of these drugs and the destruction of our nation as we know it. Or is that is ultimate goal?
Pot, as he calls it, is still a controlled substance. There is a huge lobby on the left wanting to legalize marijuana in this country. Some say that it eases pain for cancer patients etc… I don’t care. As long as it can be used for a recreational purpose, it is a danger. Marijuana is a gateway drug. Don’t believe me? Ask any heroin addict what was the first drug he tried was.
Most of those advocating legalization of that toxin are not looking to ease the suffering of illnesses. They are looking for its legalization for recreational use. And until there is a way to restrict the possibilities of medical marijuana abuses, I for one am not in favor of its legalization nor am I in favor of easing the penalties for production, dealing, possession, and/or use of the substance. Actually I’m in favor of tougher penalties for crimes associated for all drug related offenses.
His willingness to ban profiling even if it restricts the ability to prevent terrorist attacks is disturbing. Profiling works in most cases. Does it lead to some abuses? Sadly yes. But those law enforcement officers who do abuse the practice are committing crimes themselves.
It makes no sense to screen an 85 year old red head woman from Erie, PA when you are searching for terrorists when the vast majority of terrorists are young, male, and middle eastern. Restricting your profile to 20-40 year old men, with dark complexion make more sense than screening that 85 year old woman from Erie, PA.
It especially makes no sense to punish those who keep us safe because you have some race induced hatred of profiling because of a few well publicized cases of profiling. What is Mr. Obama’s problem? Is he afraid that profiling may lead to his arrest for possession because he fits a certain profile? Sounds like it to me.
Providing training, education, etc.. for ex-cons is redundant. What did he use his time in prison for? And why should the tax payers pick up a tab for an ex-con to get an education when it is so difficult for those who have never had a brush with the law to pay for the same training?
As for his wishes to allow ex-cons to vote? Sorry. That would only benefit him and his party and he knows it. He don’t care about providing these people the right to vote for the sake of their voting. If he weren’t almost guaranteed the majority of those votes he wouldn’t give a rat’s tail about disenfranchised ex-cons.
You lose your right to vote when you commit a felony. That is part of the incentive to not commit the crime in the first place. Allowing these people to vote after their sentence is not providing the incentive needed to prevent the crimes.
Mr. Obama has not one thing on his shopping list which would discourage crime. He seems more inspired to facilitate crimes than preventing crimes. Is this the kind of man you want to be the top law enforcement official in the country? I don’t.
