Dear Mr. Richardson:

Thank you for your recent correspondence regarding House Bill 314. I appreciate you contacting me about this important matter.

On March 21, 2008, I signed into law HB 314 which requires physicians, if an obstetric ultrasound exam is performed prior to an abortion or performed as part of an abortion procedure, to provide the woman with the opportunity to view the active ultrasound image of an embryo or fetus and offer to provide the woman with a physical picture of the ultrasound.
