Though it has been forever and a day since anybody in the blogosphere has read a word from my befuddled and now pregnancy hormone enraged brain, I am alive and do (on occasion) get the chance and have the energy to pay attention to what is going on in the world beyond my growing belly. One story that has for the most part enraged me comes from World Net Daily about an Arizona high school and their prom night activities.
Apparently four of the five geniuses (I use that term extremely lightly, by the way) on the Brisbee High School board have voted to add condoms to the students’ prom night goodie bag. Along with a picture frame, candles, candy, and balloons, two condoms will also be there. Yes, you read correctly. Condoms. And not just ONE condom, but TWO….PER BAG. *Makes a face* Let’s just hand them some booze at the door too! I mean, heck, why not put a coupon in there for a free abortion. Or maybe a gift certificate to Babies ‘R’ Us for the couple to go buy a car seat for when they find out the female counterpart is pregnant because all FOUR condoms DID NOT WORK!!
C’mon people!! This is ridiculous! I mean, I’m pregnant and all that fun stuff…but I’m married! I’m also not in high school. And speaking of my being in high school (when I was, that is) they had breathalyzers at my prom! If you read the entire World Net Daily article, you will find that a Florida elementary school will be teaching their 6th graders how to correctly use condoms because they have one of the highest teenage pregnancy rates. Well let’s just show them how to “wrap it”…that will make it all better. Geez…. Because it would be so hard to teach abstinence. *sighs* I don’t know what to think anymore. And honestly, it scares the living daylights out of me. I mean, Gribbit and I will be raising a child in a time where it is more correct to have sex with whomever whenever and wherever you want rather than waiting for somebody meaningful. I understand some kids don’t get that whole idea and are so jaded because of parents that they don’t believe in that whole “waiting for the one you love” stuff. Believe me, I remember rolling my eyes when somebody would tell me that’s what they were going to do for themselves when I was in high school; however, there is something to be said for at least waiting until you’re mature enough to deal with a decision you’ve made like that.
In all brutal honesty, I was never given the opportunity to make that decision for myself. Somebody took that from me. I am jealous of people who have the ability to say “No. I’m making a better choice for myself.” What makes me angry are the ones who throw it away. What makes me absolutely livid are the adults who make decisions for children who aren’t their own. Adults who feel they know what’s best for other parents’ kids. Adults who won’t be standing over those students that night to make sure they use the condoms in those goodie bags. Adults who won’t have a thing to do in helping that girl cope with a baby she’s not ready for if just one of those four condoms doesn’t work. Adults who won’t be there when the father of that possible baby isn’t there to be a father. What kind of “adults” are these??
