Paul Zachary Myers - The Epitome of Liberal Intolerance

Who is Paul Zachary Myers? He’s an Associate Professor of Biology at the University of Minnesota at Morris and a self-proclaimed “card-carrying” atheist.

Mr. Myers has drawn the ire of the President of the Catholic League Bill Donohue for a blog posting that appeared on the University’s servers. In the wake of a story that appeared on the Catholic League’s website that a student at the University of Central Florida was found to have desecrated the Holy Eucharist by removing it, unconsumed, from Mass in order to “show it to a friend. Mr. Donohue stated on the Catholic League’s website:

“For a student to disrupt Mass by taking the Body of Christ hostage—regardless of the alleged nature of his grievance—is beyond hate speech. That is why the UCF administration needs to act swiftly and decisively in seeing that justice is done. All options should be on the table, including expulsion.”

Apparently Myers saw this as an opportunity to make a strike at religion, in particular the Catholic Church, and stated on his blog under the heading “It’s a Frackin’ Cracker!” hosted on the University’s servers:

“Can anyone out there score me some consecrated communion wafers?” he wrote. “If any of you would be willing to do what it takes to get me some, or even one, and mail it to me, I’ll show you sacrilege, gladly, and with much fanfare. I won’t be tempted to hold it hostage … but will instead treat it with profound disrespect and heinous cracker abuse, all photographed and presented here on the http://www.morris.umn.edu/index.php.” Source

He subsequently had some words about the Church,

“Hey, Bill! I can think of something more vile! How about intentionally desecrating the bodies of young altar boys who respect the position of trust held by Catholic priests? I think that is a lot more vile than mistreating a cracker. In fact, I can think of innumerable vile acts going on all around the world right now, and not all of them even involve Catholicism. It takes the moral vacuum of a purblind ideological bigot like Bill Donohue to think that goring his sacred cow is the worst thing in the world,” Source

That is tolerance of others at its best isn’t it? I thought it was liberals in this country saying that we shouldn’t rush to war with terrorists who kill in the name of Allah because we should understand and be tolerant of them.

This waste of human flesh has the audacity to mention the priest scandal that when you look at them in context of the fact that fewer than 1% of the total number of priests are guilty of this improper conduct. How about we turn those facts on Mr. Myers.

What kind of profession is he engaged in when we hear every day of a new scandal involving teachers having improper sexual contact with students? Just yesterday I read of a Charter School in Southern California where multiple incidences of improper contact between teachers and students in a single school. How about those facts monkey boy?

I personally know of at least 2 Professors at the same institution in Ohio who believe that social contact between female students and themselves is perfectly normal. One actually approached a female student with an offer of a passing grade in exchange for a sexual arrangement. The student declined. But this went unreported because the student needed an earned passing grade in order to achieve her degree.

Teachers and Professors in this country have most of you snowed into thinking that they are underpaid and under appreciated when they are working part-time, receiving full-time wages, and using their classrooms as their own personal playground where they can satisfy their perversions under the guise of educating the youth of this nation. THEN one of these condescending POS “Professors” uses his bully pulpit to beat up on the Church? People in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones.

Bottom line, Catholicism is the largest single religion in this country. A country mind you that is reportedly 75-85% Christian. Catholics believe that at the consecration of the Mass, the bread and wine is transformed through the Holy Spirit into the sacred Body and Blood of Jesus Christ. That is what Mr. Donohue is referring to when he stated, “for a student to disrupt Mass by taking the Body of Christ hostage,” because in a sense that is what he did. Myers injected himself into this in order to get his jollies disrespecting the Church believing that his words are protected under free speech. That may be the case, but by putting those words on the University’s website, he is now speaking on behalf of that university. We should ask the President of the University if Mr. Myers speaks for the entire student body, staff, and himself. Email President Robert Bruininks at bruin001@umn.edu and ask him if HE feels the same as his Associate Professor of Biology.

In Conclusion, Bill Donohue released this statement on Friday,

“Myers went on Houston radio station KPFT last night saying that Bill Donohue has ‘declared a fatwa’ against him. He should know better—I don’t need others to do the fighting for me. I’m quite good at it myself. But he’d better be careful what he says, because if I get any death threats, it won’t be hard to connect the dots.

“Myers, who claims expertise in studying zebrafish, has quite a following among the King Kong Theory of Creation gang. Indeed, we’ve been inundated with hate mail from all over the world, and it all stems from those whose alleged god is reason.

“As a result of the hysteria that Myers’ ilk have promoted, at least one public official is taking it seriously. Thomas E. Foley is chairman of Virginia’s First Congressional District Republican Committee, a delegate to the Republican National Convention and one of two Republican at large nominees for Virginia’s Electoral College. His concern is for the safety of Catholics attending this year’s Republican National Convention in Minneapolis, Myers’ backyard. Accordingly, Foley has asked the top GOP brass to provide additional security while in the Twin Cities so that Catholics can worship without fear of violence. Given the vitriol we have experienced for simply exercising our First Amendment right to freedom of speech, we support Foley’s request.

“We already know that Myers lost one round: the university has removed the link to his blog from his faculty page. He should be prepared to lose a few more rounds. By the way, Myers says he is delighted to have finally garnered my attention. Too bad I can’t say the same—I never heard of the guy until yesterday.”

Personally, I will live my life content in the knowledge that Myers will come to judgement before me and will in all likelihood spend eternity in the fires of hell because he has made a personal decision to reject God.

On a side note, I was once told by a priest that there is only one sin that he cannot grant absolution for, desecration of the Holy Eucharist. Only the Pope himself can grant absolution for this most grievous of mortal sins.

A word to Atheists:

Are you sure that you are right? I mean is it worth the risk if you aren’t? Because if we are right and you are wrong and there is a God, is it worth eternity of damnation because you have questions?

Lesson, before you reject God, make sure, absolutely sure that He does not exist and be willing to deal with the consequences if He does. Because they will last for eternity.
