Libtards and Their Misconceptions About Health Care and Conservatives
Many on the left wrongly believe that Conservatives don’t want to take care of the poor. We are accused of not wanting the poor to have quality health care. This is nothing short of fiction. We get accused of wanting to abolish the current Medicare and Medicaid systems. Hogwash. The truth of the matter is the American people (poor, middle-class, and wealthy) are getting the short end of the deal when it comes to these programs and it is government’s mismanagement of these programs that we rail against.
Conservatives are not devoid of compassion for those who need help. On the contrary. We believe that government and its mandates trap the poor into a situation where it is nearly impossible to escape. And it is my contention, as is with others on the right, that flooding an already troubled system with more people will do a grave injustice to those already trapped in the government system.
The problem with health care in America is cost. It isn’t quality of care because regardless of cost under our system, a person’s illness is treated. What is wrong is how that care is ultimately paid for – or not paid for.
Cost is the problem because of government intervention. For example a construction company has 25 employees who are all male. The insurance company carrying the company’s health coverage is mandated by the government to cover mammograms and maternity care. Instead of having the employee elect this coverage if he chooses to have his wife covered, the government mandates the policy automatically include such coverage. This drives up the price of premiums and some, like it or not, will elect not to pay for the coverage ESPECIALLY if the employee is single.
Another fiction the left is floating is this 47 million uninsured boondoggle. I’ve seen estimates as high as 18 million of this number being able to afford to buy individual coverage but elect not to. I’ve seen numbers in the neighborhood of 10 million of these so-called uninsured are only uninsured for a matter of a few months in a given year due to employment changes. I’ve seen estimates around an additional 10 million who qualify for existing government funded health care options (Medicaid, Medicare, or SCHIP) who simply do not enroll for the programs.
The number that interests me is the estimated 8 million who are truly uninsured. They cannot afford individual coverage but yet make too much money to qualify for the existing government funded safety-nets. The reason why these people cannot afford coverage is because of government mandates and the rising costs of health care due to lack of restraint in awards given in medical malpractice suits.
Without meaningful tort reform in this country, costs will continue to skyrocket whether Obama gets his socialist program or not. Costs will continue to rise just as long as the trial lawyers are permitted unrestrained ability to sue for minor problems that the physician may or may not have been able to anticipate.
Many malpractice insurers will settle a claim out of court rather than risk a massive judgment against their client. This roll-over and play dead attitude with malpractice insurers is directly impacting malpractice premiums and then passed down to patients and health insurers.
Obama can make it his quest to insure everybody in this nation but without meaningful tort reform, the costs for insuring everyone will be astronomical. It will consume the federal budget and bankrupt a nation.
THURSDAY – more on the President’s plans to kill as many of you off as possible in order to save money on his health care plan. Looking more like the mad Bavarian Corporal with the little mustache all the time isn’t he?
