Polls And their Significance

Yesterday I cited a Gallup Poll which suggested that Conservatives out number liberals by a 2:1 margin. A friend, colleague, Gribbit’s Word Contributor, and all round great lady named Cao had a few choice words about the significance of polls due to their ability to be skewed. She said in her comment…

I don’t put much faith in polls. Sometimes I think polls a skewed in order to have people thinking that most people think this or that; Alexander at the Patriot Post calls it “pollaganda” – another form of propaganda.

Of all the polling outfits, though, I think Rasmussen is probably the most revealing based on methodology.

All of which I wholeheartedly agree with. I personally see Gallup as having a left leaning bias in most cases but when even Gallup can recognize the dominant political ideology in this nation as being Conservative, I do give them a little more credit that I’m apt to do when analyzing political races. It is my belief that organizations like Gallup skew their polling data during competitive races to favor a particular candidate. And more often than not, it is a liberal candidate which is being favored.

Oh I don’t mean to suggest that Gallup is being dishonest with the data that they collect, however that data can be corrupted based solely on the questions asked and how those questions are asked. Here is my problem with pollsters in general.

It is my belief that of all the polling organizations out there the most accurate is Rasmussen. Not that I believe they are completely unbiased or anything. After-all, who can say with a straight face that their particular view of politics does not affect have they conduct their analysis? I can’t and neither can you.

That said however, Rasmussen has some interesting numbers as it relates to how the American people see the issues and their priority at this point in American history.

At a time when the Congress of the United States is on a spending spree so bad that there is an actual debate going on over how much to increase the limit to the national debt, Congress is continuing to ignore the American people as we shout at them over their spending ways.

According to Rasmussen Reports, 38% of the American people believe that cutting the federal budget deficit in half over the next 4 years is a greater priority than the current dominating issue on Capital Hill – the Death Care bill. Public Option/competitive option, funding abortions/not funding abortions, only 23% of the American people believe that health care is the nation’s top priority. This is because most of us understand that passing a bill under the guise of a crisis is meaningless if the bill does not take affect until 3 1/2 years from now. If it is such a pressing issue that it needs to be rushed, why wait?

The answer is simple. There is no pressing crisis this is a purely political issue. This is the reason why the ultra left is pressing both the “public option/competitive option” and “federally funded abortions” within the bill. They are not deviating from their course because they can’t.

With every dollar that the Congress spends which this nation does not have, it devalues the American dollar on the world stage. Our currency being devalued is a greater threat to the security of the United States at this point than al Qaeda is.

Deficit spending is not the answer. But that is all Democrats know. Now, the American people have had their fill of being ignored. As bad as we thought it was under George W. Bush, Barack Hussein Obama seems to be worse.
