Three Catholic Senators Now On Record Supporting Federal Expansion of Abortion

September 30, 2009 Abortion, Catholicism, Health Care, News, Opinion, US Senate Comments Off

Via Email – OneNationUnderGod.org

Senators Kerry, Cantwell and Menendez continue false public witness as Catholic lawmakers – have accepted over $500k from abortion lobby – How many within the Catholic community will be led astray by this public dissent?

Today, the Senate Finance Committee rejected two amendments to the Baucus health care bill proposed by Senator Orrin Hatch that would restrict abortion funding and protect conscience rights for health care workers.

The committee voted mainly along party lines, 13-10, opposing the Hatch amendment #C14 (355), which “prohibits authorized or appropriated federal funds under this Mark from being used for elective abortions and plans that cover such abortions.”

Only one Republican, Senator Olympia Snowe (ME) voted with the majority. Senator Kent Conrad (ND) was the only Democrat to support the pro-life amendment.

Senator Hatch and other pro-life senators believe the present bill, without a specific abortion funding exclusion, would lead to federal funding of abortion through subsidies to private insurance plans. This vote puts three established pro-abortion Catholic lawmakers, Senators Kerry, Cantwell, and Menendez now on record supporting the federal expansion of abortion by opposing an abortion restriction amendment which would protect current federal policy.

Douglas Johnson, legislative director for the National Right to Life Committee responded to the defeat of this amendment:

Events this week in Congress provide fresh proof that top Democratic leaders in Congress are pushing forward with plans to establish massive new programs that would pay for elective abortions and subsidize insurance coverage of abortions — which, if achieved, would break from decades of federal policy.

Also by a 13-10 vote, the committee rejected an additional Hatch amendment that would protect the conscience rights of health care workers to opt out of providing or assisting in abortions. Senators Kerry, Cantwell and Menendez rejected this pro-life amendment further defying the teachings of the Church.

In a 2003 letter to the US Bishops’ Conference, then Cardinal Ratzinger wrote:

The Encyclical Letter Evangelium vitae, with reference to judicial decisions or civil laws that authorise or promote abortion or euthanasia, states that there is a “grave and clear obligation to oppose them by conscientious objection. [...] In the case of an intrinsically unjust law, such as a law permitting abortion or euthanasia, it is therefore never licit to obey it, or to ‘take part in a propoganda campaign in favour of such a law or vote for it’” (no. 73). Christians have a “grave obligation of conscience not to cooperate formally in practices which, even if permitted by civil legislation, are contrary to God’s law. Indeed, from the moral standpoint, it is never licit to cooperate formally in evil. [...] This cooperation can never be justified either by invoking respect for the freedom of others or by appealing to the fact that civil law permits it or requires it” (no. 74).

Senators Kerry, Cantwell and Menendez also rejected another Hatch amendment to reinstate funding for Title V abstinence programs which had expired on June 30, 2009. It was not surprising that the current administration under pressure from pro-abortion lobby groups, did not seek to renew abstinence-only funding in the appropriation bills passed over the summer. The Hatch amendment directs $50 million for the next four years for Title V abstinence-only education.

The U.S. bishops conference supports health care policy that offers coverage for all Americans and legal residents, but say it must protect the sanctitiy of life from conception to natural death, and conscience protection for health care workers. The bishops want restrictions on the federal funding of abortion that are constant and do not have to be renewed each year.

Senators supporting the pro-life amendments were Chuck Grassley (R-IA), Orrin Hatch, (R-UT),
JON KYL (R-AZ), Jim Bunning (R-KY), Mike Crapo (R-ID), Pat Roberts (R-KS), John Ensign (R-NV), Mike Enzi (R-WY), John Cornyn (R-TX) and Kent Conrad (D-ND). Senator Bunning is Catholic.

Senators rejecting the abortion funding restriction and conscience protection amendments were Max Baucus, (D-MT), John Rockefeller (D-WV), Jeff Bingaman (D-NM), John Kerry (D-MA), Blanche Lincoln (D-AR), Ron Wyden (D-OR), Chuck Schumer (D-NY), Debbie Stabenow (D-MI), Maria Cantwell (D-WA), Bill Nelson (D-FL), Bob Menendez (D-NJ), Tom Carper (D-DE), and Olympia Stowe (R-ME).

Please contact the Senators who voted for the Hatch amendments and thank them.
Please also contact the three pro-abortion Catholic Senators and their respective local Ordinary. How long will their bishops allow the “sin of scandal” by these Catholic Senators to persist? How many within the Catholic community will be led astray by this false public witness? contact info here

Letter From Catholic Leaders Calls for President Obama to Fire Anti-Catholic Bigot Harry Knox

President Barack Obama
The White House
1600 Pennsylvania Avenue
Washington, D.C. 20500-0003

Dear Mr. President,

On April 6, you named Harry Knox to your Advisory Council on Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships. You claim to have created this Council, among other things, to “bring everyone together – from both the secular and faith-based communities.”

Harry Knox is the hate-filled antithesis of this noble objective. Knox is a virulent anti-Catholic bigot, and has made numerous vile and dishonest attacks against the Church and the Holy Father. He has no business on any Council having to do with faith or religion.

We do not know if you or members of your Administration were aware of Knox’s deplorable, abusive attitude towards the Church and Pope Benedict XVI when you named him to the Council. We assume you were not. But since then, there have been numerous press reports on Knox’s loathsome, and clearly bigoted rhetoric, so there no longer is any excuse for your failure to act. We can remain silent no longer.

As Catholics, we call on you to remove Mr. Knox from his position and to formally disassociate yourself from his militant anti-Catholicism. Failure to do so will result in the tainting of your Faith-Based Council—and indeed, your entire administration—as anti-Catholic. We urge you to give this matter your immediate consideration.

Sincerely,

John Boehner

Instances of Harry Knox’s Bigotry

Fr. John Corapi: ‘America’s Death Wish?’

Most of you who read here are what we call Evangelical Christians. Most of you, I assume, are Pro-Life Conservatives. Some may be Roman Catholic like myself and take Church teaching seriously. Evangelical or Catholic, Christian or Jew, it matters not when we discuss the moral failure of abortion. That is what Father John Corapi is speaking of in this two part video. It has bearing on the upcoming election.

As I stated above, the differences in doctrine between Evangelicals and Catholics aside what Father Corapi discusses in these two videos is the truth.

This election has countless millions of yet to be conceived human lives in the balance. It is up to us to protect these human lives and elect someone who will not expand the murder of innocent human life.

Remember what Barry O said at Saddleback…

He said when ask when he thought the unborn received human rights that it was “above my paygrade”. But yet he wants you to put him in a position to appoint the next 2 Associate Justices of the Supreme Court of the United States of America.

He also says that he’s pro-choice… That term is an oxymoron because the unborn child has no choice. The true term is pro-death not pro-choice. A woman has a choice to make when it she decides to have sexual relations with a man. That is when her choice ends.

Pregnancy is not a disease. A baby is not a parasite. But that is exactly what the pro-death camp want you to believe.

Catholics beware… We are free to vote for whom we wish based on proportion of teachings. BUT when we vote for a pro-death candidate we are in a sense facilitating abortion which is an ex-communicable offense. Regardless of what Biden and Pelosi say… They are being told by Bishops across this country to not present themselves for Communion. If you vote for Barry Obama and Joe Biden on November 4th, if you have any moral conscience and take your faith seriously you won’t present yourself for Communion either. Joe and Nancy set a trap for you. Don’t fall for it.

Paul Zachary Myers – The Epitome of Liberal Intolerance

Who is Paul Zachary Myers? He’s an Associate Professor of Biology at the University of Minnesota at Morris and a self-proclaimed “card-carrying” atheist.

Mr. Myers has drawn the ire of the President of the Catholic League Bill Donohue for a blog posting that appeared on the University’s servers. In the wake of a story that appeared on the Catholic League’s website that a student at the University of Central Florida was found to have desecrated the Holy Eucharist by removing it, unconsumed, from Mass in order to “show it to a friend. Mr. Donohue stated on the Catholic League’s website:

“For a student to disrupt Mass by taking the Body of Christ hostage—regardless of the alleged nature of his grievance—is beyond hate speech. That is why the UCF administration needs to act swiftly and decisively in seeing that justice is done. All options should be on the table, including expulsion.”

Apparently Myers saw this as an opportunity to make a strike at religion, in particular the Catholic Church, and stated on his blog under the heading “It’s a Frackin’ Cracker!” hosted on the University’s servers:

“Can anyone out there score me some consecrated communion wafers?” he wrote. “If any of you would be willing to do what it takes to get me some, or even one, and mail it to me, I’ll show you sacrilege, gladly, and with much fanfare. I won’t be tempted to hold it hostage … but will instead treat it with profound disrespect and heinous cracker abuse, all photographed and presented here on the http://www.morris.umn.edu/index.php.” Source

He subsequently had some words about the Church,

“Hey, Bill! I can think of something more vile! How about intentionally desecrating the bodies of young altar boys who respect the position of trust held by Catholic priests? I think that is a lot more vile than mistreating a cracker. In fact, I can think of innumerable vile acts going on all around the world right now, and not all of them even involve Catholicism. It takes the moral vacuum of a purblind ideological bigot like Bill Donohue to think that goring his sacred cow is the worst thing in the world,” Source

That is tolerance of others at its best isn’t it? I thought it was liberals in this country saying that we shouldn’t rush to war with terrorists who kill in the name of Allah because we should understand and be tolerant of them.

This waste of human flesh has the audacity to mention the priest scandal that when you look at them in context of the fact that fewer than 1% of the total number of priests are guilty of this improper conduct. How about we turn those facts on Mr. Myers.

What kind of profession is he engaged in when we hear every day of a new scandal involving teachers having improper sexual contact with students? Just yesterday I read of a Charter School in Southern California where multiple incidences of improper contact between teachers and students in a single school. How about those facts monkey boy?

I personally know of at least 2 Professors at the same institution in Ohio who believe that social contact between female students and themselves is perfectly normal. One actually approached a female student with an offer of a passing grade in exchange for a sexual arrangement. The student declined. But this went unreported because the student needed an earned passing grade in order to achieve her degree.

Teachers and Professors in this country have most of you snowed into thinking that they are underpaid and under appreciated when they are working part-time, receiving full-time wages, and using their classrooms as their own personal playground where they can satisfy their perversions under the guise of educating the youth of this nation. THEN one of these condescending POS “Professors” uses his bully pulpit to beat up on the Church? People in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones.

Bottom line, Catholicism is the largest single religion in this country. A country mind you that is reportedly 75-85% Christian. Catholics believe that at the consecration of the Mass, the bread and wine is transformed through the Holy Spirit into the sacred Body and Blood of Jesus Christ. That is what Mr. Donohue is referring to when he stated, “for a student to disrupt Mass by taking the Body of Christ hostage,” because in a sense that is what he did. Myers injected himself into this in order to get his jollies disrespecting the Church believing that his words are protected under free speech. That may be the case, but by putting those words on the University’s website, he is now speaking on behalf of that university. We should ask the President of the University if Mr. Myers speaks for the entire student body, staff, and himself. Email President Robert Bruininks at bruin001@umn.edu and ask him if HE feels the same as his Associate Professor of Biology.

In Conclusion, Bill Donohue released this statement on Friday,

“Myers went on Houston radio station KPFT last night saying that Bill Donohue has ‘declared a fatwa’ against him. He should know better—I don’t need others to do the fighting for me. I’m quite good at it myself. But he’d better be careful what he says, because if I get any death threats, it won’t be hard to connect the dots.

“Myers, who claims expertise in studying zebrafish, has quite a following among the King Kong Theory of Creation gang. Indeed, we’ve been inundated with hate mail from all over the world, and it all stems from those whose alleged god is reason.

“As a result of the hysteria that Myers’ ilk have promoted, at least one public official is taking it seriously. Thomas E. Foley is chairman of Virginia’s First Congressional District Republican Committee, a delegate to the Republican National Convention and one of two Republican at large nominees for Virginia’s Electoral College. His concern is for the safety of Catholics attending this year’s Republican National Convention in Minneapolis, Myers’ backyard. Accordingly, Foley has asked the top GOP brass to provide additional security while in the Twin Cities so that Catholics can worship without fear of violence. Given the vitriol we have experienced for simply exercising our First Amendment right to freedom of speech, we support Foley’s request.

“We already know that Myers lost one round: the university has removed the link to his blog from his faculty page. He should be prepared to lose a few more rounds. By the way, Myers says he is delighted to have finally garnered my attention. Too bad I can’t say the same—I never heard of the guy until yesterday.”

Personally, I will live my life content in the knowledge that Myers will come to judgement before me and will in all likelihood spend eternity in the fires of hell because he has made a personal decision to reject God.

On a side note, I was once told by a priest that there is only one sin that he cannot grant absolution for, desecration of the Holy Eucharist. Only the Pope himself can grant absolution for this most grievous of mortal sins.

A word to Atheists:

Are you sure that you are right? I mean is it worth the risk if you aren’t? Because if we are right and you are wrong and there is a God, is it worth eternity of damnation because you have questions?

Lesson, before you reject God, make sure, absolutely sure that He does not exist and be willing to deal with the consequences if He does. Because they will last for eternity.

He Is Risen

In this post I’m going to depart from the written word and explain what we believe. It is understood that those who believe know that Christ rose from the dead before the morning of the first day. Some say during the night of the second. But based on the prophesy and Christ’s own words, he would rise in 3 days, the theory of his resurrection on the third day holds more true for some than others.

Here’s what Catholics believe…

We believe in one God,
the Father, the Almighty,
maker of heaven and earth,
of all that is seen and unseen.

We believe in one Lord Jesus Christ,
the only Son of God,
eternally begotten of the Father,
God from God, Light from Light,
true God from true God,
begotten not made, one in Being with the Father.
Through him all things were made.
For us men and our salvation
he came down from heaven:
(bowing) by the power of the Holy Spirit
he was born of the Virgin Mary, and became man. (rise)

For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate;
he suffered, died, and was buried.
On the third day he rose again
in fulfillment of the Scriptures;

he ascended into heaven
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead,
and his kingdom will have no end.

We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life,
who proceeds from the Father and the Son.
With the Father and the Son he is worshiped and glorified.
He has spoken through the Prophets.
We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church.
We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins.
We look for the resurrection of the dead,
and the life of the world to come. Amen.

We believe this so intently that we declare it during the mass.

During the consecration of the Eucharist, we even declare…

Christ has died,
Christ is risen,
Christ will come again.

Christ is center of our lives. Practicing Catholics live our weeks around receiving Christ in Holy Communion each Sunday. Some of us even attend daily Mass in order to receive our Lord daily.

At each Mass we hear an Old Testament reading, a Psalm, a Letter of the New Testament, and the Gospel. We don’t read our Bibles in Church during Mass because we are taught that the word is meant to be heard. We hear the readings. The complete readings. Not some cherry picked verses selected to emphasis a particular lesson. Each reading is the same reading that is being read in each church thought the world. Others cannot say this. A reading in Rome today, will be read in Dayton Ohio, in Los Angeles California, and in Tokyo Japan. Will two “Bible Churches” of practically any of the many hundred Protestant denominations have the same readings for Easter Sunday alone? I doubt it. And if they do, I would wager that neither will read it completely in context.

The Catholic Church is structured and whole. We consider our Protestant brothers and sisters part of the greater Body of Christ. It is a shame, many of them do not consider us the same.

The Crucifixion and Death of the Lord

March 21, 2008 Announcements., Catholicism Comments Off

We continue our pilgrimage through the Gospel of Luke which describes the Passion…

When they came to a place called the Skull, they crucified him and the criminals there, one on his right, the other on his left. [Then Jesus said, "Father forgive them, they know not what they do."] They divided his garments by casting lots. The people stood by and watched, the rulers, meanwhile, sneered at him and said, “He saved others, let him save himself if he is the chosen one, the Messiah of GOD.” Even the solders jeered at him. As they approached to offer him wine they called out, “If you are King of the Jews save yourself.” above him there was an inscription that read, “This is the King of the Jews.”

Now one of the criminals hanging there reviled Jesus, saying, “Are you not the Messiah? Save yourself and us.” The other, however, rebuking him, said in replay, “Have you no fear of GOD, for you are subject to the same condemnation? And indeed, we have been condemned justly, for the sentence we received corresponds to our crimes, but this man has done nothing criminal.” Then he said, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.” He replied to him, “Amen, I say to you, today you will be with me in Paradise.”

It was now about noon and the darkness came over the whole land until three in the afternoon because of an eclipse of the sun. Then the veil of the temple was torn down the middle. Jesus cried out in a loud voice, “Father, into your hands I commend my spirit”; and when he had said this he breathed his last. The centurion who witnessed what had happened glorified GOD and said, “This man was innocent beyond doubt.” When the people who had gathered for this spectacle saw what had happened, they returned home beating their breasts; but all his acquaintances stood at a distance, including the women who had followed him from Galilee and saw these events. Luke 24:33-49

The Triduum of the Church is one long Mass. It begins on Holy Thursday and lasts until the conclusion of the Easter Vigil on Holy Saturday Night. In ancient times, the Easter Vigil would begin at sundown and last until dawn of the next day when the Gloria was proclaimed. But now it isn’t done quite that long.

The vigil consists of 12, yes I said 12, readings beginning in Genesis, through the prophets, a Letter from St. Paul and finally a Gospel is proclaimed. After the Liturgy of the Word, The Elect are Baptized and Confirmed along with the Candidates. Then we have the Liturgy of the Eucharist which Christ himself instituted on Holy Thursday.

If you have the opportunity, even if you are not Catholic, to attend the Easter Vigil, I suggest you do. It, for me at least, deepens one’s faith. All are welcome, but only Baptized Catholics can receive the Eucharist. You are invited however, to receive a blessing if you wish. Simply place your arms across your chest in an X pattern placing your hands on your shoulders. This tells the priest or Eucharistic Minister that you wish to have a blessing.

I hope we can all grow closer together through this celebration of the Feast of the Resurrection. THE Holiest time of the year for all Christians.

Jesus Carries His Cross

March 21, 2008 Announcements., Catholicism Comments Off

After being scourged and mocked by Roman Soldiers, Jesus carries his cross to the place where he is to be crucified.

As they led him away they took hold of a certain Simon, a Cyrenian, who was coming in from the country; and after laying the cross on him, they made him carry it behind Jesus. A large crowd of people followed Jesus, including many women who mourned and lamented him. Jesus turned to them and said, “Daughters of Jerusalem, do not weep for me; weep instead for yourselves and for your children, for indeed, the days are coming when people will say, ‘Blessed are the barren, the woumbs that never bore and the breasts that never nursed.’ At that time people will say to the mountains, ‘Fall upon us!’ and to the hills, ‘Cover us!’ for if these things are done when the wood is green what will happen when it is dry?” Now two others, both criminals, were led away with him to be executed. – Luke 24:26-32

The Way of the Cross is a majority of the 14 Stations of the Cross.

The…

1st Station – Jesus is condemned to die
2nd Station – Jesus takes his cross
3rd Station – Jesus falls the first time
4th Station – Jesus meets His Holy Mother
5th Station – Simon helps Jesus to carry his cross (We read in the Gospel)
6th Station – Veronica wipes Jesus’ face
7th Station – Jesus falls again
8th Station – Jesus meets the Holy Women (We read in the Gospel)
9th Station – Jesus falls a third time
10th Station – Jesus is disrobed
11th Station – Jesus is crucified
12th Station – Jesus dies on the cross
13th Station – Jesus is taken down
14th Station – Jesus is laid in the tomb

“We adore You, O Christ, and we bless You; because by Your holy Cross You have redeemed the world.”

Later, the Crucifixion.

The Sentence of Death

March 21, 2008 Announcements., Catholicism Comments Off

After being convicted in the Sanhedrin, Jesus was brought before Pilate who, after questioning Jesus, didn’t want anything to do with the case and referred the matter to Herod, King of Judea. Herod questioned Jesus, his soldiers mocked Jesus, but Herod, sent him back to Pilate.

Pilate then summoned the chief priests, the rulers, and the people and said to them, “You brought this man to me and accused him of inciting the people to revolt. I have conducted my investigation in your presence and have not found this man guilty of the charges you have brought against him. nor did Herod, for he sent him back to us. So no capital crime has been committed by him. Therefore I shall have him flogged and then release him.

But all together they shouted out, “Away with this man! Release Barabbas to us.” (Now Barabbas had been imprisoned for a rebellion that had taken place in the city and for murder.) Again Pilate addressed them, still wishing to release Jesus, but they continued shouting, “Crucify him! Crucify him!” Pilate addressed them a third time, “What evil has this man done? I found him guilty of no capital crime. Therefore I shall have him flogged and then release him.” With loud shouts, however, they persisted in calling for his crucifixion, and their voices prevailed. The verdict of Pilate was that their demand should be granted. So he released the man who had been imprisoned for rebellion and murder, for whom they asked, and he handed Jesus over to them to deal with as they wished. – Luke 23:13-25

Pilate was the Roman Governor of Judea and had the power to spare Jesus anyway. He only capitulated to the will of the people to prevent further rebellion. And in doing so, fulfilled the prophesy.

Next, we’ll discuss the way of the Cross.

The Betrayal and Arrest of Jesus

March 20, 2008 Announcements., Catholicism Comments Off

Without the betrayal there would be no trial before Pilate. No trial nor conviction. No conviction no crucifixion. Therefor no betrayal no salvation.

While he was still speaking, Judas, one of the Twelve, arrived, accompanied by a large crowd, with swords and clubs, who had come from the chief priests and the elders of the people. His betrayer had arranged a sign with them , saying, “The man I shall kiss is the one; arrest him. Immediately he went over to Jesus and said, “Hail, Rabbi!” and he kissed him. Jesus answered him, “Friend, do what you have come for.” Then stepping forward they laid hands on Jesus and arrested him. And behold, one of those who accompanied Jesus put his hand to his sword, drew it, and struck the high priest’s servant, cutting off his ear. Then Jesus said to him, “Put your sword back into its sheath, for all who take the sword will perish by the sword. Do you think that I cannot call upon my Father and he will not provide me at this moment with more than twelve legions of angels? But then how would the scriptures be fulfillment which say that it must come to pass in this way?” At that hour Jesus said to to the crowds, “Have you come out as against a robber, with swords and clubs to seize me? Day after day I sat teaching in the temple area, yet you did not arrest me. But all this has come to pass that the writings of the prophets may be fulfilled.” Then all the disciples left him and fled.

As difficult as it is to read and hear read, the story of the betrayal of Christ is an important piece of the story of our redemption. As difficult as it is to read or hear read the story of the betrayal, the story of the scourging, the way of the cross, and the crucifixion is even more so. But without these, we would still be suffering.

Let us keep in mind, that as I discuss with you the crucifixion tomorrow, that it was our sin which cause each of the wounds in Christs body. Each cut inflicted upon him during the scourging. Each one of those thorns cutting into his head from the crown of thorns. And each nail hold in his hands and feet were caused by OUR SIN. We must repent.

Tomorrow, the trial and crucifixion of our Lord.

Thanks for reading.

He Gathered His Disciples At Table

March 20, 2008 Announcements., Catholicism Comments Off

Today is Holy Thursday, the day Jesus instituted the Eucharist at His last Passover meal. He gathered His disciples in the upper room and they ate according to Jewish law.

When the hour came, he took his place at table with the apostles. He said to them, “I have eagerly desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer, for, I tell you, I shall not eat it [again] until there is fulfillment in the kingdom of GOD.” Then he took a cup, gave thanks, and said, “Take this and share it among yourselves; for I tell you [that] from this time on I shall not drink of the fruit of the vine until the kingdom of GOD comes.” Then he took the bread, said the blessing, broke it, and gave it to them, saying, “This is my body, which will be given for you; do this in memory of me.” And likewise the cup after they had eaten, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which will be shed for you.” – Luke 22:14-20

As Catholics, we believe that we are to share this meal often and that Christ is actually present in the Eucharist. We take seriously what Jesus taught the disciples in John Chapter 6…

The Jews murmured about him because he said, “I am the bread that came down from heaven,” and they said, “Is this not Jesus, son of Joseph? Do we not know his father and mother? The how can he say, ‘I have come down from heaven’?” Jesus answered and said to them, “Stop murmuring among yourselves. No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draw him, and I will raise him on the last day. It is written in the prophets:

‘They shall all be taught by GOD.’

Everyone who listens to my Father and learns from him comes to me. Not that anyone has seen the Father except the one who is from GOD; he has seen the Father. Amen, amen, I say to you, whoever believes has eternal life. I am the bread of life. Your ancestors ate the manna in the desert, but they died; this is the bread that comes down from heaven so that one may eat it and not die. I am the living bread that came down from from heaven; whoever eats this bread will live forever; and the bread that I will give is my flesh for the life of the world

The Jews quarreled among themselves, saying, “How can this man give us [his] flesh to eat?” Jesus said to them, “Amen, amen, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you do not have life within you. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him on the last day. For my flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me and I in him. Just as the living Father sent me and I have life because of the Father, so also the one who feeds on me will have life because of me. This is the bread that came down from heaven. Unlike your ancestors who ate and still died, whoever eats this bread will live forever.” These things he said while teaching in the synagogue in Capernaum. – John 6:41-51

We gather at the table weekly and some of us daily to partake in the Eucharist, which means Thanksgiving.

Later this evening, I’ll discuss with you the betrayal of Christ.

Have a blessed day.

Who is Paul Zachary Myers? He’s an Associate Professor of Biology at the University of Minnesota at Morris and a self-proclaimed “card-carrying” atheist.

He Is Risen

March 23, 2008
