Huckster’s Potential 2012 Bid Already Over

During the 2008 Republican Presidential Primaries I made no secret of the fact that I am NOT a Mike Huckabee fan. It is my opinion that his background of being a Baptist minister is detrimental for America and it seems my instincts are correct.

As governor of Arkansas, Huckster granted in excess of 1,000 commutations of convicted criminals including 12 who were convicted of murder. There has been suggestion in some circles that he tended to grant commutations and pardons not on evidence before him as he suggested in a rebuttal printed on RedState but rather if the convict had found GOD within the prison walls. In his attempt to save face and deflect responsibility for commuting the sentence of a man who went on to murder 4 police officers in Washington, Mike “Huckster” Huckabee bravely states that he did not pardon Maurice Clemmons. This may be true. But the commutation of Clemmons made him eligible for parole which was ultimately granted.

Had Huckster kept his nose out of the Clemmons affair in the first place, Maurice would still have been sitting in a prison cell not out there killing police officers. The only thing that could be worse than what happened in Washington would be if Huckster got himself elected President in 2008. Lord only knows how many felons would have eventually been set free by this charlatan had he been just because they found GOD behind the prison wall.

Don’t get me wrong, I do believe that many people do find GOD after committing crimes. They do repent and they do seek forgiveness and it should be granted. But a debt to the state for the crimes committed is not relieved by GOD’s forgiveness.

Mike “Huckster” Huckabee is governed by his theology. A theology mind you that is fundamentally flawed might I add. He comes from the “once saved always saved” department of theological stupidity which confuses the lines drawn by GOD himself through His Word in Jesus Christ who said in the Gospel According to Matthew, “Then repay to Ceasar what belongs to Caesar and to GOD what belongs to GOD.” [1] In this context Christ was speaking of taxes but a debt to the state is a debt to the state. In this case, prison time owed to the state for a crime committed should not have been altered simply because one finds religion behind the prison walls. This is akin to an terrorist not killing you because you suddenly proclaimed belief in the 8th century pedophile prophet Mohamed. Whether you actually do or not is immaterial.

Under a President Huckster, the exit lines at our nation’s prisons would be filled with a new wave of born again types who suddenly understood that declaring a belief in GOD was a ticket to freedom. That is something that cannot be permitted.

He may lead in every single straw poll being conducted, but it is my belief that his political future is forever tainted. In this way, he and Gary Hart have a lot in common.

For the record, I do not wish to offend my Protestant colleagues but this is an individual who poses a threat to ending the free spending ways of the Democrats currently in charge. He is unelectable and would be ineffective as a chief executive. He raised taxes on the people in Arkansas and would have raised them on the American people.

Huckster Drops, It’s About Flippin’ Time

After rumors prevailed throughout the evening that Huckster would not drop out of the race tonight or tomorrow, Huckster did just that. Quoting scripture, out of context by the way and making analogies to George Brett, Mike “the Huckster” Huckabee finally dropped out of the race. Three months too late but he finally did.

Saying that we must unite around our nominee for the good of the Party, he make a convoluted and long winded speech to his supporters in Irving Texas.

From ABC News:

Huckabee’s brand of social conservatism, combined with his strong core support among evangelicals, and a frugal campaign budget, left party rivals scrambling to defend their conservative credentials.

Sen. Sam Brownback, R-Kan., former New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani, and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney were all, at least in part, victims of Huckabee’s surprise success.

Ultimately, the former Arkansas governor won by losing, attracting significant blocs of the GOP base in state races despite McCain’s significant delegate lead, the latter due in part to the party’s largely winner-take-all delegate distribution.

He cost the most Presidential candidate his candidacy, Mitt Romney. The constant onslaught of criticism of his religious beliefs, Mitt Romney was hurt the most by Huckster leading many to believe that Huckster was a lackey for McCain. The lack of similar criticism of McCain lent itself to that theory.

The only thing that I ever agreed with Huckster about was not just handing McCain the nomination until it was earned. But he wasn’t the guy to challenge McCain. That was Romney’s job.

Huckster damaged this Party. Huckster handed McCain the nomination when he forced Romney out. His faux support of The Fair Tax had the Neal Boortz fans swooning. His criticism of Mormonism had the religious bigots swooning. And his empty rhetoric rivaled Obama.

Bottom Line…

The American people said it eloquently through the vote. One Arkansan from Hope was too much.

I Blame the Huckster, Dr. Paul, and His Bots

I made no secret of the fact that I’m a FredHead. I still believe Thompson was the most Presidential and electable candidate in the quest for the Republican nomination. After his departure, the next best choice was Mitt Romney. But, there were two wrinkles.

The first wrinkle is Doctor (OB/GYN) Dr. Ron Paul and his millions of PaulBots spamming the blogosphere. For obvious reasons Dr. Paul should have dropped out of this race first. Sure he raised money but his state by state vote count is so miserable he’ll never catch Romney’s count and Romney has been out since the first day of CPAC. If Paul swept the remaining states that wouldn’t give him enough delegates to deny McCain because the free floating delegates out there. Those whose candidates have dropped will inevitably go with McCain in the end.

The second wrinkle is the Spoiler, Mike “the Huckster” Huckabee or as Ann Coulter calls him, Huckleberry.

Huckleberry’s futile campaign was evident from the beginning. His rise to popularity was fueled by the very left leaning Main Stream Media in order to create a candidate who would lose against their eventual nominee no matter which it was. But Huckster’s star faded fast. He is enormously popular in the Evangelical center of the world, the American South East. Remove him from the heart of the Southern Baptist Convention and he’s nothing.

Personally I have no love lost for the SBC at all and you all know why. Do we want someone like that leading our nation? I see a fantasized rule of Huckster in the White House thinking of ways to eliminate all other forms of worship other than his. Honestly I do.

Catholics, Jews, Jehovah’s Witnesses, Mormons, and Muslims would be out of luck in this country under King Huckster I.

His quest for the nomination in his own mind is futile. I respect the reason why he’s remaining in the race but I must say, he over stayed his welcome by about 8 weeks. Delegates captured by Huckleberry would likely have gone to Romney and McCain and we’d have 2 viable candidates duking it out for the nomination making the late voting states even more vital. His stubborn refusal to leave the race until someone, other than him of course, has 1,191 votes is making Ohio and Texas more viable than if he would have dropped when he should have.

The only reason why he has any momentum is that his core states, the American South East voted in a block on Super “Duper” Tuesday. If those states had not voted together and on the same day, he would have been toast long before now.

I blame Huckster for our lack of a viable choice for President. He successfully removed our only viable candidate with his anti-Mormon rhetoric and his myopic view of Christianity.

ABC Reports – Huckster: ‘I May Be Killing My Political Career’

He may not have killed it, but he sure shot the hell out it. In his statements he is referring to his continuing a seemingly futile campaign when the fact is he started killing his political career when he made the primary race about religion. His attacks on Mitt Romney over his religion were uncalled for and typical for someone of his religious background. I know this from personal experience.

You and I know what he’s done to his career, but let’s see what he thinks he’s done to it.

From ABC.com:

“I may be killing my political career, but I know this — if we don’t start thinking in terms of solving some of America’s problems, we’re killing all of your careers.”

“What I mean by that, I’m just saying there are a lot of people who say I’m staying and creating problems for the party, and there are obviously people in the party who are unhappy that I’ve stayed. Now, keep in mind, they’re all supporting John McCain, but this sense that it’s just his turn, let’s just all step aside — I find that insulting as a Republican, and as a candidate,” Huckabee said.

“And my point is, if people say, ‘well, he should have left’ –- they said this of Ronald Reagan in 1976, when he continued to campaign right on until the convention.”

“It was said of other Republicans in previous times. But, ya know, the rules are, that if you don’t have the person that has the delegates to claim the nomination, it goes to a brokered convention. I don’t necessarily think that’s all that bad.

“I think the worse thing is not getting the right candidate nominated for the contest. So, if we haven’t had a candidate who has rallied enough delegates to be named, then maybe it should go to the convention.”

I actually agree with the Huckster. I think as he does that the nomination shouldn’t be a coronation. But I disagree with him on so many levels it isn’t funny. In spite of this, I will be voting for him on March 4th for no other reason other than to do my best to deny Juan MexiCain as many delegates as possible.

Huckster,

You may not have killed your career yet, however you did shoot yourself in the foot awful bad. Now if you can get that wounded foot out of your mouth, you might be ok in a few years.

Clinton Eyeing Mini Tuesday; Huckster Trails Badly

Mini Tuesday? Yes Mini Tuesday. If February 5th was Super “Duper” Tuesday because over 20 primary contests were held on that day, one can make the argument that March 4th will be Mini Tuesday. Just a few contests but for the Democrats a huge significance.

The key states of Ohio and Texas hold their primaries on Mini Tuesday. Also holding primaries are the states of Vermont and Rhode Island. Ohio has 161 delegates on the Democrat side, 88 on the Republican. Texas has 228 for the Dems and 140 for the Republicans. Vermont 23 and Rhode Island 32 on the Dems side, 17 and 20 respectively on the Republican side. Hillary needs as many Ohio and Texas delegates as possible to contain Obama.

Because the Dems distribute their delegates proportionately according to popular vote by state, this may be a situation of high hopes for Clinton. Obama can successfully stave off losing the lead to Clinton if he can keep it close in both states where Clinton is currently leading.

In Ohio, Clinton leads Obama 51 – 37% respectively. If Obama can close the gap in the next 17 days Clinton may be in trouble in my home state of Ohio. In Texas, Clinton also leads Obama 54 – 38% respectively. Again, Obama has 17 days to close that gap. If he cannot close the gap in these two key states in the next 17 days (that’s a long time), then he will prove that he cannot win in November.

Because of the proportional delegate distribution, the states of Vermont and Rhode Island mean little in the quest for the Democrat Nomination.

In the Republican Quest, Mike “the Huckster” Huckabee trails Juan MexiCain in Ohio by 17 points (33 – 50% respectively). That means he’s got to make up at least one point per day to make Ohio a contest. In the Texas race, MexiCain leads Huckster 45 – 37% (That’s 9 points). Huckster is in a position to deny MexiCain 140 delegates should he convince enough people to vote against amnesty. He’s got some work to do but I’m not sure how he’s going to get it done from the Caymans.

Remember campers, polls have been consistently wrong this election cycle. Why? I’m not sure. I’m still using the one poll that seems to have been closest all cycle long – Rasmussen Reports.

Gribbit Agrees With the Huckster?!?

At this point in the primary season, I expected that it would be either Fred Thompson v MexiCain or Giuliani or Mitt Romney v MexiCain or Giuliani. I thought for certain that Mike “the Huckster” Huckabee wouldn’t still be in. But Huckster has been saying something that I do agree with.

For the most part I think the Huckster is full of hot air and empty promises. He is a tax and spender who now is preaching the merits of The Fair Tax. He has no idea what foreign policy is. And he has shown to have problems with the truth. But he has said one thing in the past couple of days that I agree with. He said if he drops out, that is telling people in Wisconsin, Texas, and Ohio who haven’t voted yet that we have no voice. He’s right.

Now I’m hoping the Huckster stays in until they announce the Nominee at the Convention. Why? Just to be a thorn in MexiCain’s saddle.

Huckster Ally IRS Target

As I’ve stated in a previous post I no longer have a dog in the fight for the Republican nomination for President of the United States. This frees me to attack in all directions because no matter who gets the nomination or who eventually wins the General, this nation will be doomed to economic ruin. I’d just prefer the blame fall upon a Democrat so that there can be another Conservative Revolution.

That said, it seems that a preacher ally of Mike “the Huckster” Huckabee is the target of an IRS probe.

According to the IRS…

“Because a reasonable belief exists that the Church has engage in political activities that could jeopardize its tax-exempt status as a church under section 501(a), this letter is notice of the beginning of a church tax inquiry described in IRC section 7611(a),” the letter said. “We are sending it because we believe it is necessary to resolve questions concerning your tax-exempt status as a church…”

“Our concerns are based on information we received concerning an Aug. 11, 2007, press release issued on the letterhead of First Southern Baptist Church of Buena Park, California. The information we received provides … Pastor Wiley Drake endorsed Republican presidential candidate, Mike Huckabee, for the 2008 presidential election,” the letter said. The IRS said it also “received” information that Drake also had supported Huckabee on Drake’s radio program. SOURCE

Here is my thoughts on the matter.

If he made his comments from his radio program and that program is independent of the church, then there is nothing at all to this. HOWEVER, if the radio program is a ministry of the church, then anything he says on that program represents the church and that is a violation. If he endorsed the Huckster from the pulpit, then he has a problem.

I believe that the Alliance Defense Fund which is representing Drake is an honorable organization with the goal of protecting the free speech and religious freedoms of us all. That said, I must say that they may be in for a loss on this one.

I said in the beginning of this election cycle that it was dangerous for pastors to run for office and this is why.

If at any time, Huckster was a guest preacher in any church, and he campaigned within the walls of that church as he preached, he then is putting the church’s tax exempt status at risk. You cannot campaign within the church. You cannot endorse candidates as a representative of a church.

I make no secret of the fact that I’m Roman Catholic. The Church does not endorse candidates. The Church does not endorse ballot measures. The Church expects its members to follow their consciences and follow Church teaching on moral issues and vote accordingly. Members of the clergy and employees of the Church cannot run for public office. This is to insulate the Church from any impropriety.

In Protestant Churches there seems to be a lack of discipline on this matter. The only reasoning that I can deduce to explain this is the fact that there is no authority within the churches. The congregations select and hire their pastors. There seems to be no requirement of theological studies to qualify for these positions. This being the case, I can’t for the life of me understand how more of these undisciplined churches aren’t investigated by the IRS.

Pastor Drake may have put his church in jeopardy of losing its tax exempt status.

Hillary Acknowledges Fox More Fair, Chelsea Claims Hillary “Fiscally Conservative”

In all of the squabble over the MSNoBodyCares David Shuster “pimped out” comment, Democrat Presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton acknowledged to Politico Reporter John Harris on Washington’s ABC News affiliate WJLA that Fox News’ coverage of her campaign has been the most fair. Shocker! A liberal Democrat acknowledging that Fox News Channel is the most fair. This is something that the left-wing blogosphere would never acknowledge. [Transcript of the Interview]

Is Hillary taking aim at Conservative America since it seems that Barack Obama is likely to beat her out for the Democratic Nomination? Could it be that she senses blood in the water over Juan MexiCain and wants to present herself to Conservatives as being more fiscally responsible? I think so since her own daughter has been on the campaign trail saying just that.

Clinton (Chelsea), the daughter of presidential hopeful Sen. Hillary Clinton and former President Bill Clinton, said that a return to “fiscal responsibility,” as promoted by her mother, would be one of the ways to secure Social Security. She also noted that her mom, as she referred to Hillary Clinton throughout the question and answer session, was the “most fiscally conservative candidate running” and “the only candidate who tells you how she’ll pay for everything.”

Too bad that she plans on paying for everything by taxing working America into the poor house.

Democrats have been tauting the expiration of the Bush Tax Cuts as a way to pay for the massively expensive social programs they have plans. Hillary herself is proposing over $800 Billion in new social spending and no spending cuts. Just more taxes.

What Democrats like her don’t realize is that the people that she wishes to tax into poverty are the same people who employ everyone else. What good does raising taxes do? NONE!

Hillary and every other liberal in this country wish to lower standards of living for the bulk of America and end poverty by making everyone impoverished. There is only one way to truly end real poverty in this country, that is by making everyone economically mobile. To do that, taxes need cut and the government needs to shrink. Spending needs to be curtailed to those necessary programs outlined in the Constitution. (Help! I’m sounding like a PaulBot!)

John Edwards claimed to be on a mission to end poverty. His pie in the sky quest hasn’t a prayer of success because try as we might, there will always be people who do not have as much as everyone else. They could have a 6 figure income and still live in poverty if the median income in the country were to hit 7 figures.

In other words, Hillary’s claims of being “fiscally Conservative” are a bunch of smoke and mirrors parlor tricks and rhetoric designed to appeal to those who wish to cut the deficit. Deficit reduction is only one aspect of Fiscal Conservatism. Ending wasteful spending on programs not authorized by the Constitution is another.

Fat lot of good paying for your pet projects using higher tax rates will be Mrs. Clinton if there is no one working in this country to pay your heavy tax burden. If you want to claim Fiscal Conservatism, it is time to come off your baby bonds and other wasteful spending proposals.

If Conservatives support any Dem for President in 2008 it is to insure that the Presidential failure that will follow won’t fall upon a Republican. Clintonian smoke and mirrors won’t work. Just ask the Huckster. He hasn’t a chance to win the nomination outright. He’s got to hope for a brokered convention and even then he won’t get it.

Try again Hillary.

Mr. MexiCain Takes Washington, Barely

Well to say that he won Washington is a bit premature. ABC News is calling it for MexiCain in spite of the minuscule difference in the vote count suggesting that the powers that be in the Washington GOP may have a bias.

The Washington state GOP ceased counting ballots with 87.2% of the precincts reporting according the Mike “the Huckster” Huckabee. Now I’m no fan of the Huckster. I personally think that he’s a flim-flam man and holds a Masters of Clintonian Politics as a graduate of the Arkansas School of Clintonian Politics with a 4.0 GPA. But even I have questions as to the motivation behind the Washington GOP’s refusal to continue to count the ballots cast? Or at least releasing the counts.

With 87.2% reporting, a mere 242 votes separate Huckster from MexiCain. To say that the remainder 12.8% does not contain enough votes to make up that 242 margin is a fable. The state Party must be doing this for a reason. But why?

The Huckster’s campaign released the following:

“The Huckabee campaign is deeply disturbed by the obvious irregularities in the Washington State Republican precinct caucuses. It is very unfortunate that the Washington State Party Chairman, Luke Esser, chose to call the race for John McCain after only 87 percent of the vote was counted. According to CNN, the difference between Senator McCain and Governor Huckabee is a mere 242 votes, out of more than 12,000 votes counted—with another 1500 or so votes, apparently, not counted. That is an outrage.

“In other words, more than one in eight Evergreen State Republicans have been disenfranchised by the actions of their own party. This was an error in judgment by Mr. Esser. It was Mr. Esser’s duty to oversee a fair vote-count process. Washington Republicans know, from bitter experience in the 2004 gubernatorial election, the terrible results that can come from bad ballot-counting.

“Frankly, I am disappointed in the way that Mr. Esser has handled this urgent matter. So I call upon Mr. Esser and his colleagues to cooperate fully with the Huckabee campaign—and all Republicans, everywhere, who care about honest and transparent vote-counting—to make sure that every vote is counted and that all Republicans in Washington have the chance to make their votes count. Attempts by our campaign to contact Mr. Esser have been unsuccessful. Our lawyers will be on the ground in Washington State soon, and we look forward to sitting down with Mr. Esser to evaluate this process, to see why the count took so long, and why the vote-counting was stopped prematurely.

“It would be a disservice to every voter in Washington State to not pursue a full accounting of all votes cast.

And I agree. Surprisingly.

Even though I don’t like the Huckster, he is still in this race and the people’s voice has a right to be heard. If he is the choice of the people of Washington state in spite of state Party officials, then he should receive the delegates from Washington. There is no explanation for not releasing the numbers from those last 12.8% of ballots unless it counters what the state Party officials want to see.

I am of the opinion that this elections cycle has been tainted by outside influences. Everything from the main stream media to the Democratic Party encouraging their members to vote in open primary states as Republicans. MexiCain is riding a wave of support largely consisting of Independents and Democrats and that for me is a problem. Republicans are being marginalized by these interlopers.

The Huckster has a chance to derail MexiCain’s phony “straight talk express” and deny him the required 1191 delegates to secure the nomination. He is showing moxie in his refusal to give up the ghost in Washington and a stubbornness that only can be attributed to his post graduate degree work at the Arkansas School of Clintonian Politics.

At this point I am standing by my belief that no matter who the nominee ends up being, true Conservatives will either abandon votes for President in November, stay home, or vote for a Dem in order to insure that the next failed Presidency (and the next one will be) will belong to a Dem. Huckster cannot beat Hillary or Barack. I believe that once it is down to MexiCain v either Dem, MexiCain will lose because all of his cross-over backers will go back to their liberal friends.

H/T: Stop the ACLU

Obama Sweeps Clinton; Huckster in a Quest to Deny MexiCain

Now that I no longer have a dog in this fight, I can “objectively” cover the campaigns I guess. Well as “objectively” as my biases will allow me. I may not have a dog in this race, but I know who I don’t want to become President – any of them. The real question is, which candidate will benefit Conservatives most in the long run?

In the torment which is the 2008 Presidential Election, there exists no Conservative in the race and with the economic indicators that the current environment contains, it is my belief that no matter who wins this race they will be doomed to a 4 year term.

Saturday night was a sweep for Barack Obama as he won Louisiana, Nebraska, the Virgin Islands, and Washington (state) and taking 72 delegates compared to Hillary’s 40 bringing the totals to; Clinton 1118, Obama 1095. This close race is looking more and more like a possible brokered convention every day.

Not to be out done, Mike “the Huckster” Huckabee is giving Juan MexiCain a run for his money as well. Saturday Huckster took Kansas and Louisiana with Washington (state) too close to call. Huckster may turn the GOP race into a fight yet. However with no chance at winning the nomination outright, the best thing that Huckster can hope for is a brokered convention.

Huckster received a call Saturday from Texas Governor Rick Perry urging him to drop out of the race for the good of the Party. To which the Huckster replied…

“I told that him while I appreciated it, with all due respect, since he was already on someone else’s team that I had to discount his advice since he had a vested interest in my not winning and McCain winning,” he said. “Since he was endorsing my opponent, therecommendation rang a little hollow to me. Again it was a cordial conversation but not one that I would take seriously.” SOURCE

I have to give the Huckster some credit, he is sticking to his guns as I wish that the 2 candidates that I previously supported had. Romney even at this late date was still 2nd in the delegate count going into Saturday’s races. I still feel his “suspension” of the campaign was a mistake. Had he stayed in he could have gotten enough delegates to make a fight of it at a brokered convention. But as it is, even though he could continue to accumulate delegates in states where he still appears on the ballot (provided he gets enough support) he cannot get enough to win a brokering fight at the convention.

Best case scenerio in my opinion, Juan MexiCain spends more money than he wants to staving off the Huckster that whoever the Dems put up can outspend him in the general. Why might you ask? As I’ve stated before I believe that the next President is doomed to a single 4 year term and I don’t want that individual to be a “perceived” Republican. And seeings how both Republican candidates are only “perceived” as Republicans because their past actions prove differently, I’m afraid that the Republican Party may end up forfeiting the White House until January 20, 2021 should Juan MexiCain win this year. That is something I don’t think that this country could possibly survive.
