Huckster Strikes First But Is It Conclusive?

The Huckster draws first blood on Super Tuesday by winning the West Virginia Republican Convention. But the victory isn’t as conclusive as it may sound in a headline.

In the West Virginia Convention, there were only 1,100 votes cast. You read that correctly. There were only 1,100 votes cast in the state that was heavily lobbied by the martial arts superstar and former star of Walker Texas Ranger, Chuck Norris.

Chuck’s star power was able to get Huckster 51% of the vote yielding him all 18 delegates from the coal rich state. But 51% is only a measly 567 votes.

Mitt Romney took second place in West Virginia with 521 votes (47%). Juan MexiCain was able to capture 12 votes. You read that correctly as well – 12.

I’ve been saying that a vote for The Huckster is a vote for MexiCain and the news out of West Virginia seems to support that. Juan MexiCain told his supporters in West Virginia to “go ahead and vote for Huckabee”.

According to FoxNews.com:

Huckabee won in the second round of voting, even though Mitt Romney led after the first round. The former Arkansas governor won with 51.5 percent to Romney’s 47.4 percent, pulling ahead after John McCain’s delegates apparently defected to his side.

The convention had to go into a second round of voting after no candidate took a clear majority the first time. Texas Rep. Ron Paul was knocked out, and Huckabee, Romney and McCain moved forward.

Paul finished fourth with 10 percent among the 1,133 participating delegates in the first round, while Romney took 41 percent and Huckabee took 33 percent. McCain, who started the day in New York City before heading to California, reached the second round with 15 percent.

But before Huckabee’s surprising turnaround in the second round, McCain delegates told FOX News they had been instructed by the campaign to throw their support to Huckabee. emphasis mine

The first round of voting included 1,133 votes but the final vote only included 1,100. I find it difficult to believe that the people of West Virginia would vote the way that these “delegates” did in a popular vote. It is apparent that Ron Paul’s supporters didn’t cast a vote in the second round. It is also apparent that MexiCain recognizes that Romney is a bigger threat than The Huckster so he instructed his supporters to cast his 15% behind The Huckster.

Romney’s response to this dirty politicking?

Romney Campaign Manager Beth Myers issued a statement after the West Virginia vote blasting McCain.

“Unfortunately, this is what Senator McCain’s inside Washington ways look like: he cut a backroom deal with the tax-and-spend candidate he thought could best stop Governor Romney’s campaign of conservative change.”

It goes without saying that the process in West Virginia leaves a lot to be desired.

Note to those who wish to dispense with the electoral college. The electoral system is a heck of a lot better than the way that West Virginia runs their “Convention.”

Huckster – You’ve Officially Over-Stayed Your Welcome

The Huckster has indeed over-extended (to use the modern day PC verbiage) his welcome. He has hung around this primary season about a month longer than he should have creating what I, and millions like me, hope is a false sense of inevitability in the Juan MexiCain campaign. At this point all Huckster is doing is splintering off votes from Mitt Romney. And I say this with a level of confidence as certain as day is light and night is dark.

For sure, there is a bigoted element in the supporters of Huckster that will refuse to vote for a Mormon. This I also say with a level of confidence as certain as day is light and night is dark. Huckster plays on the evangelical notion that if it isn’t written in whatever officially approved bible they embrace, it is not so. These are the same morons who are willing to ignore 2000 years of Christian tradition in the name of a myopic theology known as Sole Scriptura. To this minority, yes I said minority, of Americans, the most qualified person in this race to be our next President is not worth their vote. They would rather back someone who has the chances of winning this race somewhat equivalent to that of Mahmoud Iwannajihad becoming an Israeli citizen.

In the latest Rasmussen Daily Presidential Tracking Poll (2/4/08), Huckster is polling at 22% nationally. John “The Breck Girl” Edwards was polling higher than that in a 3 person race before he dropped out. Huckster is in a 4 man race and he can’t match Johnny’s numbers in spite of winning Iowa.

In that same Rasmussen Daily Presidential Tracking Poll (2/4/08), Mitt Romney and Juan MexiCain are neck and neck. The poll has MexiCain up 33% to Romney’s 30%. But with a +/-4% margin of error, that is a literal statistical dead heat.

So why is the Huckster sticking it out? Now I don’t have any proof of this but the Conventional Wisdom prevailing in the Conservative Blogosphere seems to come to the conclusion that he’s sticking because of some yet undisclosed back-room agreement with Juan MexiCain. I understand that this is tin-foil hat wearing conspiracy theorist stuff, but it seems to make sense.

Huckster and Juan are using the evangelical Conservatives’ loyalty for one of their own to splinter the conservative vote which would naturally go to Mitt Romney if Huckster wasn’t playing religion bigot. Notice that Huckster has been on Romney for the whole race. He was the one who first attacked Romney for being a Mormon. It has been Huckster who has made this a contest about religious beliefs not Mitt. Juan is soaking up the benefits from this division and collecting the delegates to the convention.

I firmly believe that Huckster will win one, maybe two, states later today and will publicly acknowledge the futility of his campaign by the end of the week. This in spite of the fact that his campaign has been a futile effort since he announced his intentions of seeking the nomination.

For us FredHeads who are now supporting Romney, we can only hope that today is a split with Mitt taking a majority of delegates from Juan. This will throw the nomination into the hands of the voters in the late voting states like Ohio.

And what about Ron Paul (in the event you’ve forgotten, he’s the 4th in this race)? Sorry to inform the PaulBots infesting the Blogosphere but his measly 6% (no wonder he’s so easily over-looked) and a second place finish in Nevada isn’t going to quite be enough to snag the nomination. The Ron Paul campaign is another exercise in futility.

UPDATE 0445 EST

Discounting the 51 delegates which have been awarded to those who have dropped out or soon will (Paul and Huckster) the magic number to secure the nomination is 570. Romney needs 493 and MexiCain needs 477. To say that MexiCain has this wrapped up is not only pre-mature, it is a down right lie.

The Day of Definition Is Here!

The day of definition has arrived. Super “Duper” Tuesday is the day where the races for both nominations COULD, and I emphasize could, be determined.

In the Republican race, 21 states are up for grabs. I’m not sure how much the non-binding caucus in Maine on Saturday will help, but Mitt Romney took that race. I’m predicting a split with Huckster bowing out by Friday. It is going to be the late voting states like Ohio that will determine the Republican race.

On the liberal side, 22 states are up for grabs. At this late stage Barack Obama seems to be making a threat of it. If the Dems happen to split then it could be a race that takes us all the way to the convention.

I care not to make predictions that this candidate or that has the better chance of walking away with the nomination of either party at this point. I’m hoping that if it does happen on the Republican side, that it is Mitt Romney who does the walking. But I have to say that there are forces within the Republican Party willing to walk away from the Conservative base as if the 2006 mid-terms meant nothing. It is these forces that are threatening to tear the Party in two and hand the Dems a win in November.

I won’t say like Ann Coulter did last week that I’ll campaign for Hillary. But I will say that I’ll campaign against Juan MexiCain until he is defeated whether that be during the primary process or in the General Election.

The Surprise Over Opposition to MexiCain

Perusing the sphere I’ve seen several articles that seem shocked that Juan MexiCain is being opposed by so many Conservatives. Just look at TownHall for example. Lorie Byrd has a post titled, “Why are so many Republicans freaking out about John McCain’s primary success?” I can’t believe Lorie calls it success.

He’s riding a wave created by the sellout America mentality that seems to be more and more pervasive within the party. Nabbing key endorsements from Republicans that have been blocking Conservative reforms Juan MexiCain is using his new found popularity to beg and plead his way into the nomination. But I’m here to tell you people that if he is the nominee, he won’t win.

What I find difficult to believe is that anyone is shocked at the opposition. We are talking about a man who got the endorsement of THE most liberal newspaper in the nation. Why would anyone who considers their self a Conservative vote for this man, he opposes Conservatism at every opportunity. He even felt the other side out in 2001 when he reached across the aisle and thought about switching Parties. And he wants us to “coalesce” around him?!? I think not.

I say that he will lose based on one simple fact, Conservatives will either stay home, or vote for the opposition. As I’ve said before, if we are going to end up with a lib we might as well get the genuine article. Remember 2006? It’s poised to happen again.

The only choice left in this race for anyone who considers them self a Conservative is Mitt Romney. Voting for RINOs will only worsen our position.

The only reason why MexiCain is ahead is because of his RINO buddies and the fact that he’s become the darling of the MSM. It is their desire to influence our primary in such a way as to get Juan nominated so that people like you and I help elect a Democrat.

Juan MexiCain represents the new “Compassionate Republican” which is nothing more than a 1970’s Blue Dog Democrat with a new party affiliation. I’m with Ann Coulter on this. If Juan MexiCain is the nominee, I campaign for the Dem whether it be Hillary or Obama. Again, we’ll deserve whichever we get.

A Vote for Huckster is as Good as a Vote for MexiCain

Mike “The Huckster” Huckabee’s obstinate obsession with staying in a race for a nomination that he cannot win could hand the nomination to someone that would damage our party beyond repair. Every vote for The Huckster is a vote for MexiCain. The media is discounting The Huckster just as they have discounted Ron Paul and Dennis Kucinich from the beginning. He is a non-entity at this point with no real chance at winning the nomination but yet he still hangs on. This is fueling speculation among the Conservative base that he may be a shill for MexiCain. He knows that he cannot win and he knows that he is drawing some voters from Romney who he hates. This all being the truth, he is willing to hand the nomination to an individual who has made a career out of thumbing his nose at the very party he claims to be a member of. What other explanation is there for The Hucksters actions?

I will go on record now saying that if MexiCain becomes the nominee of my party, I’ll vote Democrat in the General election. Why? Because this country would have earned what we get. The depression that will ensue will be due to the Republican Party nominating someone who cannot be distinguished as any different than the Democrats. If we have a choice between a Democrat and a RINO, might as well vote for the genuine article I say.

Voters you have to wake up to the truth. If you are a social Conservative, at this point you only have one choice. Romney. If you are an economic Conservative, at this point you only have one choice. Romney. If you are a national security Conservative, you do have a choice because voting for MexiCain will hand the Dems a victory on social and economic issues. If you wish to lower taxes, MexiCain is not your man. If you wish to control spending, again, MexiCain is not your man. He talks a good talk, but his record says a different tune.

And let me be clear on this, each and every vote for The Huckster is a vote for MexiCain.

Some of you Huckster backers out there consider yourself social Conservatives. Don’t let Huckster’s evangelical rhetoric sway you. His anti-Mormon bigotry is no different than being a racist. Remember we live in a nation that protects religious freedom and your support of Huckster is a support of his bigotry.

I too am no fan of Romney’s religion. But as a Roman Catholic Huckster despises me just as much as he despises Romney. His religious background affords him no choice but to be single minded in his bigotry. As a Roman Catholic the biggest issue which sways my vote is the candidate’s stance on abortion. At this point, Romney’s position on abortion is acceptable. He is taking the Fred Thompson federalist approach which is overturn Roe v Wade and send it back to the states where the issue always belonged.

As an economic Conservative I feel more comfortable voting for someone who believes that the Bush tax cuts should be made permanent. MexiCain opposed the Bush tax cuts but now says they ought to be made permanent. Makes you wonder how genuine that desire is. Mike Huckabee says now he’s on board with The Fair Tax, but his record shows a tendency to raise taxes. Especially in the quest to institute a nanny state. Huckster would use the tax system to enforce nanny state policies against smokers, drinkers, and transfats. Do you want the President and the federal government tell you that you can’t eat that burger, smoke that cigarette, or have that drink? I don’t and I’m not even a smoker.

Evangelical Conservatives wake the hell up. The man you are backing is going to turn on you when he successfully beats down the only viable Conservative left in this race. When it looks like Romney cannot secure the nomination, Huckster will bow out and throw his support behind MexiCain. Is that what you truly want? Use your head, that’s the lump 3 feet above your ass.

People the choices are simple, MexiCain or Romney. That’s it. Any other considerations during your time in the voting booth are votes to support MexiCain. Under a MexiCain Presidency we would have an open border policy that would increase the number of illegals invading our country exponentially. Instead of 12-20 million illegals in this country try 40-50 million. If you think it is difficult to find a job that pays a livable wage now, elect MexiCain.

And one last time. Each and every vote for Huckster is a vote for MexiCain.

McCain Wins Florida, Giuliani Set to Drop, Mitt Still Looking Strong with Conservatives

All the news agencies began to declare the winner in Florida with only 55% of the precincts reporting. Now isn’t the time to debate the validity of microsampling but that said, it seems that Sen. MexiCain as one of my compatriots called him won the Sunshine State.

Rudy Giuliani who put all of his eggs in Florida’s basket failed to finish strong and is expected to drop out. In his post election address to his supporters, he spoke of his campaign in past tense fueling the speculation that he is going to drop. Insiders are saying that Rudy is in “negotiations” with the MexiCain camp for his endorsement. This I find interesting because the only reason to negotiate is if he is looking for a VP designation or a promised cabinet post should MexiCain win the General. To that I’m saying that I think that they are both beginning to count chickens before the eggs are even laid.

It is my belief that the Nomination will not be determined until late March, maybe April, or possibly even May. I think that Super Tuesday will be a split and with the Huckster vowing to stay in “until the 9th inning” the delegate count might get interesting.

To me the only choice for Conservatives, I mean real Conservatives, is Mitt Romney. I’ve been saying that I am reserving my official endorsement of anyone until after Super Tuesday. But as I begin to see it play out it is my belief that unless I put my 1/50th of a dollar in this mess in order to insure that I’ve said all that I can to prevent MexiCain from gaining the Nomination.

Mitt is on the right side of all the big issues. True he’s changed position of abortion, but so has millions of Americans. Jane Roe, Norma McCorvey, has changed her position. So why can’t Mitt?

So now friends, you can say I’m on board…
