Death Care Bill On Life Support?

Both Congressional bodies passed bills independent of each other that include two different and massively expensive approaches on how to implement the President’s Death Care plan. With only gaining 1 Republican vote in the House and no Republican support in the Senate, the Death Care bill is a completely Democrat show. The hold-up with the bill is within the Democrat Party. It is the Dems that can’t reconcile on the best way to implement a bill the Republicans cannot block on their own.

It goes without saying that any significant deviation from the Senate bill will result in a deadlock in the Senate. A cloture vote will not happen. Without a significant deviation from the Senate bill, the egomaniacs in the House leadership will not be able to muster the required 218 votes for passage; especially as more and more House members see in this bill the road to early retirement.

There have already been several announcements declaring retirement in lieu of re-election efforts. One Congressman, Rep. Parker Griffith (AL-5), has even left the Democrat Party and is now aligning himself with the GOP. Still more are facing almost certain defeat on November 4th because of their support of massive spending bills in a recession that seems only to be getting deeper.

Voters see this as a political quagmire. The die hard leftists in the House won’t vote on any bill not including a public option, whereas the Senate can’t achieve cloture on anything that includes a public option. There are major differences in each bill on how to fund them. The Senate bill would tax so-called “Cadillac” health plans at a rate of 40% which would be a blow to the middle class. Many union members have these so-called “Cadillac” plans. House members see this as an affront to their political base.

The House bill, on the other hand, proposes to pay for itself by taxing millionaires. This sentiment is popular with the dregs of society who don’t realize that this is the very group of people who create jobs…but then again most of the public that supports this fiasco don’t want to work to begin with.

Both bills require health coverage of all Americans and include a system of fines for not carrying coverage. This issue has prompted many to discuss the Constitutional implications of the bills. Let us not forget this: nowhere in the Constitution is the federal government granted the responsibility of overseeing the health care industry. The mere discussion of these bills in itself is a violation of the 10th Amendment.

Some in the House are claiming, as Rep. Anthony Weiner (D NY-9) has, that negotiating with the Senate is like negotiating with a gun to their heads. Good. I love the in-fighting. It gives me hope that this POS bill will ultimately fail.

Another problem for the Emperor is that the further we get into 2010, many House members will be less willing to stick their necks out for this plan. This is especially true if the possibility of failure in the Senate exists. If House members stick their necks out and Reid fails to get the 60 votes required for cloture, the Death Care bill will die on the table and flat-line the careers of House members who support it. Because if it should die on the table in the Senate, House members who supported the bill in the House will have sacrificed their political careers for nothing. Make no mistake, support of the Death Care bill will mean the death of many a political career.

Compounding the problems for the Emperor is the fact that the Secretary of State of Massachusetts cannot stall certification of Scott Brown’s victory (assuming he wins next Tuesday) indefinitely. If the House and Senate are going to act, they will need to act quickly or Brown’s ‘NO’ vote will definitely table the bill in the Senate no matter what they come up with.

The best thing for this nation is for them to do nothing at this point. With this Congress, they are doing their best work when they are on recess. It appears to me that unless they get this done now, it won’t get done and a lame duck session of Congress will begin early. If this should happen, this Congress will be hitting their stride.

Obamacare In Danger

Those in favor of the government takeover of the health care industry rejoiced when Sen. Ben Nelson committed his vote for cloture as if Obamacare were a done deal. Well – not so fast.

In the Senate, Obamacare is poised to either pass with a margin of zero or it will fail by a few votes. As House and Senate Democrats meet with the White House to negotiate the language of the final bill, Senators Lieberman and Lincoln and others are watching to see what changes are produced by those negotiations. The language that passed the Senate bill appears to be the only language that is worthy of some Democrat votes. Almost any deviation from the Senate bill might kill the whole deal.

So I say to the Dems negotiating in Washington…

Take it to the limit. Make the final bill everything the Liberals want. Then it will be sure to fail in the Senate.

I’m betting that 60 votes will not exist for Cloture on the Conference Report. How are you wagering?

Keep in mind a few very real truths. Obamacare is already forcing the retirement of 2 Democrat Senators, many more are in danger of losing their re-election bids, 1 House member so far has defected to the Republican Party, and it is looking like a blood bath is in the future come November. Democrats are definitely showing that they are incapable of governing.

Government Health Care Fails Again – But In The US?

August 24, 2009 Health Care Comments Off

Those who back government run health care fail to see that we already have proof of its failure here in the US. First and foremost, government insurance. Medicare and Medicaid are is such serious financial trouble they are near bankruptcy. No one denies this and yet the President wants to move the rest of the country to a government rationed care plan similar to Medicaid and Medicare.

The second failure? The VA.

From Breitbart (AP):

At least 1,200 veterans across the country have been mistakenly told by the Veterans Administration that they suffer from a fatal neurological disease.

One of the leaders of a Gulf War veterans group says panicked veterans from Alabama, Florida, Kansas, North Carolina, West Virginia and Wyoming have contacted the group about the error.

Denise Nichols, the vice president of the National Gulf War Resource Center, says the VA is blaming a coding error for the mistake.

Letters dated Aug. 12 were intended to notify veterans who have Lou Gehrig’s disease of disability benefits available to them.

If all Americans are subjected to the torture of being government dependent for health care, how many of us will be receiving letters in the future wrongly telling us we have an incurable neurological disease or worse? And once we receive these letters, will we then be locked out of expensive treatment because Dr. Ezekial Emanuel’s death panels have determined that our ability to be a productive member of society no longer exists[1]?

I’m sorry America, but I don’t have a lot of faith in a system in which one person’s coding error could possibly subject millions of others to medical abandonment. Especially if the government is paying their extremely low salary because a Czar in the White House determined that those who code medical records for billing are paid too much.

Government employment breeds apathy for the job. As evidence, I present to you the United States Postal Service. Do we truly want this kind of apathy to bleed into our health care decisions?

Single Payer System Leads to Sidewalk Birth in the UK

The back and forth bickering over the Obama/Pelosi/Waxman/Reid Death Care plan has sparked some major retaliatory sniping in defense of the single payer system from the UK. Just as if it were made to order, the Daily Mail is reporting that a woman gave birth to her child on a sidewalk after being refused ambulance transport.

A young mother gave birth on a pavement outside a hospital after she was told to make her own way there.

Mother-of-three Carmen Blake called her midwife to ask for an ambulance when she went into labour unexpectedly with her fourth child.

But the 27-year-old claims she was refused an ambulance and told to walk the 100m from her house in Leicester to the city’s nearby Royal Infirmary.[1]

That’s a fabulous system. Have a pregnant woman, IN LABOR, walk to the hospital. Yet this is the type of system that Obama favors.

Also in the news related to the Obama/Pelosi/Waxman/Reid Death Care proposal is a story about Vancouver and it’s impending need to cut the number of surgeries performed. The story appearing on the Vancouver Sun’s online version warns patients who require Neurosurgery, vascular surgery, and other necessary procedures that it may be a longer wait to save their lives.

Vancouver Coastal Health Authority document shows it is considering chopping more than 6,000 surgeries in an effort to make up for a dramatic budgetary shortfall that could reach $200 million.[2]

And finally, AARP is seeing a major loss of membership. Some 60,000 members are leaving AARP citing the group’s endorsement of the Obama/Pelosi/Waxman/Reid Death Care bamboozle.

About 60,000 senior citizens have quit AARP since July 1 due to the group’s support for a health care overhaul, a spokesman for the organization said Monday.

The membership loss suggests dissatisfaction on the part of AARP members at a time when many senior citizens are concerned about proposed cuts to Medicare providers to help pay for making health care available for all.[3]

Ya Think?!?

What I find incredibly humorous (or at least it would be if this issue wasn’t so damned dangerous) is the fact that in the past couple of days we’ve heard rumors reported as almost verified fact that the so-called ‘public option’ had been pulled from the bill. Today we find out that Democrats are willing to “Go It Alone”[4] on the Death Care sham in order to please the ultra liberal, Daily POS base of the Party.

I’m thinking the Blue Dogs are going to be in a position to dictate to the libs after this fails. Perhaps there could be a new Speaker when this is all said and done?

The Rush on Death Care is an Alinsky Tactic

Since an estimated 80% of the population already has health care coverage, the rush to pass the Obama/Pelosi/Waxman/Reid Death Care package can only have one reason – overwhelm the system.

Saul Alinsky said in his ‘Rules for Radicals’ -

RULE 4: “Make the enemy live up to its own book of rules.” If the rule is that every letter gets a reply, send 30,000 letters. You can kill them with this because no one can possibly obey all of their own rules.

This is the same tactic employed by ACORN and its affiliated groups when they swamped the states with millions of fraudulent voter registration cards. It was impossible to weed out all the bad registrations so many of them passed through the system like shit through a goose. Hence the reason why a man in Cleveland was able to vote 9 times.

Obama, Pelosi, Waxman, and Reid all know this works. The chief advocate of pushing legislation through before it can be read is Rham Emanuel who has a special reason for wanting a rush on Death Care. His brother is set to become Obama’s czar.

Other Alinsky tactics at play here? Let’s take a look…

RULE 1: “Power is not only what you have, but what the enemy thinks you have.” Power is derived from 2 main sources – money and people. “Have-Nots” must build power from flesh and blood.

The “Have-Nots” were the Democrats in 2006. They used whatever means available to them including deceit to get YOU to put THEM into power. Remember the “Culture of Corruption”? While you ponder that term let me mention former U.S. Representative from Louisiana William Jefferson. The A #1 example of political corruption is William Jefferson followed closely by Rod Blagojevich. Both DEMOCRATS.

Power is the only concern for liberals. They crave it like a crack addict craves a rock. And they will employ any tactic they can to achieve and hold on to, if not expand, their power. This Congress and this President are all about power consolidation. They want to centralize power in Washington to make as many of you dependent upon them as possible. After-all, they rush these bills through so fast only they know what’s in them. As I wrote a few days ago, even Obama doesn’t know what’s in his Death Care bill. This is done on purpose. The term is Plausible Deniability.

If passed, harmful aspects of a bill can be avoided by the President if he does not know they are in the bill. He can deny knowing it was there and escape the normally apathetic public’s scrutiny during his re-election campaign. Their policies are stupid, I never said they were. Ignorant to the facts of life maybe, but brilliant in fooling you into believing their tripe.

A few of Alinsky’s other greatest hits…

RULE 5: “Ridicule is man’s most potent weapon.” There is no defense. It’s irrational. It’s infuriating. It also works as a key pressure point to force the enemy into concessions.

RULE 8: “Keep the pressure on. Never let up.” Keep trying new things to keep the opposition off balance. As the opposition masters one approach, hit them from the flank with something new.

RULE 12: Pick the target, freeze it, personalize it, and polarize it.” Cut off the support network and isolate the target from sympathy. Go after people and not institutions; people hurt faster than institutions.

We see this at play with Pelosi’s announcement the other day that Death Care opposition protesters are carrying swastikas to these townhalls as if it were the protesters themselves saying “We Are Nazi’s and You Must Fear Us.” What drivel. Pelosi is trying to scare moderates and rank-in-file Democrats into not participating in the opposition because she is now associating the opposition with Nazis.

The truth of the matter is the swastikas being displayed at these townhalls are in reference to the President’s and the Congress’s tactics. The completely fascist way in which they are driving home their agenda without debate. Their appeal to their supporters to turn-in anyone talking about Death Care negatively via the White House’s “snitch” program is straight out of Nazi Germany’s Gestapo playbook. To the point that I asked the question, “Who is their Himmler?”

As you think about your position during this “debate” keep one thing in mind. Roughly 80% of this nation is already insured. And it is roughly this same percentage of people who are satisfied with this level of coverage. Many of the remaining “uninsured” choose to be. Many others still aren’t even US citizens. Still others would qualify for medical care under current government funded programs. The number of actual uninsured that need to have coverage is somewhere in the neighborhood of 7 million. Can a way be found to cover these people? Yes. But does it have to include a $1 trillion price tag? No. Does it need to eliminate choices? No. Does it need to include end of life counseling that can be morphed into a forced eugenics program in the future? No. Does it need to include taxes on existing employer provided health care with exemptions for union employees as an incentive to join labor unions? Hell NO!

The answer is not in the Obama/Pelosi/Waxman/Reid Death Care bills. The answer is expanding market solutions to make health care more affordable for more people. There exists in this country barriers to expanded risk pools. Insurance companies cannot offer coverage under a particular group across state lines. This limits the risk pool and raises prices. This could be eliminated.

Currently, malpractice insurers will settle malpractice claims out of court in order to avoid limitless awards granted by judges. This is costing billions of dollars annually to the insurance industry and in turn raising the cost of health care. This process has led to the requirement of needless testing to confirm and re-confirm a diagnosis that a doctor has made. These tests are expensive and cost the insurance industry still more billions a year. Without meaningful tort reform that protects patients and doctors, costs will continue to be driven up. This all said however, the Obama/Pelosi/Waxman/Reid Death Care bills do not attempt to address this vital portion of the complex problem. Tort reform is key to controlling costs. Not Obama’s death summits every 5 years or federally funded abortions.

The left is insisting that the Republicans are not offering solutions. This is pure unadulterated bullshit. Republicans have been attempting to reform tort law for decades and the Democrats resist because they are in bed with the trial lawyers. Hell one of their most recent Presidential candidates and a former Democrat Nominee for Vice President was a trial lawyer. How can you possibly control the costs of health care if you continue to reward one of your pet special interest groups who is driving up costs? You can’t.

There is one other thing that you need to consider when deciding whether you support the Obama/Pelosi/Waxman/Reid Death Care bills, if 80% are covered and satisfied with their coverage, what is the rush? If no crisis exists why rush it through as if there is a crisis?

Don’t fall for their Alinsky ‘Rules for Radicals’ tactics again. You did once and elected them. See them for the charlatans they are and reject their scare tactics. Read the bill for yourself and insist your Congresscritter reads it BEFORE he/she votes on it.

Programming Note…

From this point forward, anytime this site refers to the current debate on “health care reform” it will be referred to as the Obama/Pelosi/Waxman/Reid Death Care bills. Why might you ask? Because there is nothing healthy about abortion, eugenics, care rationing, and waiting lists. Neither is removing the doctor and patient from decisions about care and placing the decision making in the hands of a unfeeling, disinterested bean counters in Washington. Death is the only possible result of these bills.

Newsweek: ‘Recession Over’ as GDP Sits at -1%

In the lead up to the 2008 elections, the extremely left leaning media of this country were trying to convince you that the nation was in recession when key indicators suggested economic growth not recession. They created the current recession by convincing you it existed when it didn’t. Now, one of the leftarded media outlets is trying to convince you that the recession that they helped create is over when the key economic indicator of the existence of a recession shows evidence that it the recession is continuing..

From CNN:

But according to all of the economic indicators, Newsweek is a bit premature in that announcement. This includes the most important indicator – the Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

A recession is defined as 2 or more consecutive quarters of negative GDP. The main stream media all were announcing that the United States was in recession when the nation still had positive GDP numbers. And now, Newsweek in their infinite stupidity is announcing the end of said recession unilaterally with no evidence to back it up. But what the hell, evidence doesn’t mean a fucking thing to these assholes.

CNN is reporting, ‘Obama mocks Newsweek cover, Newsweek hits back‘.

“I don’t know whether you’ve seen the cover of the latest Newsweek magazine on the rack at the grocery store, but the cover says: ‘The Recession is Over,’” the president said as part of his prepared remarks at the event.

“I imagine you might have found that news a little startling,” Obama continued. “I know I did.”

Obama went on to say while certain indicators are improving, like the stock market and home sales, “That’s little comfort if you are one of the folks who have lost their job.”

For the first time in his short Presidency, Barack Obama is correct. It is little comfort for the couple of million people who have lost their jobs since the Man with the Middle Name Hussein took over. He has been consistently wrong in every prediction that he has made from the campaign on.

He warned us that if we didn’t pass his economic stimulus package that unemployment would climb to 8.5%. With the national unemployment numbers flirting with 10% and the jobless rate in the Democratic People’s Republic of Michigan tipping the scales at a whopping 15%, somehow I believe the douchebag from Chicago got that one wrong.

He said that his stimulus package would create jobs. Wrong again. Green jobs – wrong. The only evidence that I personally have been able to find that any of his stimulus claims are being implemented is a sign on I-75 southbound into Dayton, Ohio that claims that a project begun 8 years ago, the I-70/I-75 Interchange, and near completion is part of the Obama Porkulus package. I’m sorry, but I’m sure funding for that piece of road work was secured before ground was broken. The same can be said for the other I-75 project. Ground was broken on that in early 2008. So somehow I doubt Porkulus funding got those projects off the ground or created any jobs there since they were both going before Obamaramadingdong secured his Party’s nomination.

Barry followed up his extremely expensive political payoff package with another aimed at cutting greenhouse emissions when in fact, it does nothing of the sort. It is another tax package dreamed up by the President and put into a bill by SanFranNan, both of whom have never seen a tax proposal they haven’t absolutely been in lust with. The House Cap and Trade bill doesn’t curb the emissions of greenhouse gasses. It only taxes them. Somehow they have the idea that raising taxes on businesses in this country will somehow create jobs. I’ve never heard anything more ignorant in my life. But they truly believe this tripe.

Now Barry, Nan, and Harry Reid (the human sleeping pill) have another brilliant idea. Let’s place greater mandates on the health care industry by forcing Doctors out of the profession through regulation and lower compensation for government funded options. Let’s place a mandate on the American people to get private coverage before this bill becomes law or be forced onto a government run health care system that will create waiting lists, rationing of care, and the end of privacy. Let’s remove the patient and the doctor from the decision making process and put an empathy free board of bureaucrats in charge of making health care decisions for people they’ve never met. And while we are at it, how about ending care for seniors and fund as many abortions as we can to reduce the population.

What’s next for this turd? Soylent Green?!?

So no Newsweek, the recession that you helped create by instilling fear into the minds of many non-thinking lemmings out there who wrongly believe that you are an independent news service is not over. It is alive and well and about to receive a huge shot in the arm if the House and Senate pass Obama’s health care scheme.

Health Care – Obama’s Folly or The Making of a President?

Much has been written this past week about a statement made by Republican Senator Jim DeMint concerning Barack Obama’s Presidency in the event that the President’s socialization of the US health care system fails.

Ben Smith of the Politico reported on July 17th…

Conservative leaders will push delay any vote on health care reform until after the August recess to capitalize on what they say is a growing tide of opposition to reform measures, they said on a conference call with “tea party” participants today.

“I can almost guarantee you this thing won’t pass before August, and if we can hold it back until we go home for a month’s break in August,” members of Congress will hear from “outraged” constituents, South Carolina Senator Jim DeMint said on the call, which was organized by the group Conservatives for Patients Rights.

“Senators and Congressmen will come back in September afraid to vote against the American people,” DeMint predicted, adding that “this health care issue Is D-Day for freedom in America.”

“If we’re able to stop Obama on this it will be his Waterloo. It will break him,” he said.

His Waterloo or his “Read My Lips” it matters not, the fact remains that as more details about this boondoggle are leaked to the public, the less the public likes the idea of government controlling the health care system. This legislation will not be voted on in the Senate before the August recess as predicted by Sen. DeMint and as such will face intense scrutiny during the break.

Senate Democratic leaders on Thursday abandoned plans for a vote on health care before Congress’ August recess, dealing a blow to President Barack Obama’s ambitious timetable to revamp the nation’s $2.4 trillion system of medical care.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., delivered the official pronouncement on what had been expected for weeks, saying, “It’s better to have a product based on quality and thoughtfulness rather than try to jam something through.” – The Associated Press via Breitbart.com

This decision by the Senate Majority Leader goes against the strategy of the President and the Democrat Leadership of both houses since the beginning of this Administration in January which is to ram through everything on the liberal wish list before anyone has a chance to read any of the legislation. The less the American people know about what Washington is doing, the better it is for Barack Obama, Harry Reid, and especially Nancy Pelosi.

However, Senators and House members still have to go before their constituents and explain to them why this harmful legislation is important to them when in fact, it is only important to the President. Not because DeMint said so – because Barack Obama himself said so.

The next tactic of the left is to attempt to block the release of information from Republicans to the American people. In a story headlined on the Drudge Report…

Dems Block Republican Health Care Mailing; Attempt to censor chart…

At the heart of the matter is a mailing that included a chart put together in an attempt to illustrate graphically the bureaucratic mess that the House version of Obama’s health care take over creates. The biggest issue that House Democrats had with the mailing and the chart was that it called the Democrat architects out on the creation of something called, “Health Insurance Exchange Trust Fund” which under the plan would draw funding from the IRS for no apparent reason. Democrats are calling that false – but then again they refuse to acknowledge that page 16 of the proposed legislation also makes private insurance illegal beginning the first day the legislation is enforced.

From the proposed bill Section 102 states -

(a) Grandfathered Health Insurance Coverage Defined- Subject to the succeeding provisions of this section, for purposes of establishing acceptable coverage under this division, the term ‘grandfathered health insurance coverage’ means individual health insurance coverage that is offered and in force and effect before the first day of Y1 if the following conditions are met:

(1) LIMITATION ON NEW ENROLLMENT-

Here the government puts limitations on who can enroll in existing private insurance groups. It continues -

(A) IN GENERAL- Except as provided in this paragraph, the individual health insurance issuer offering such coverage does not enroll any individual in such coverage if the first effective date of coverage is on or after the first day of Y1.

Someone ought to explain this to the President because just 3 days ago, he did not know this existed. But it does.

The ballyhoo about this bill from the left is that it will include everyone. Everyone will have health coverage. It will be cheaper. And everyone will live in peace and harmony in this socialist created Utopian nightmare.

The CBO’s numbers and the ballyhoo don’t match. The cost according to the CBO is in excess of $1 Trillion in just the first 10 years of government control. Beyond that I’ve heard estimates in excess of $20 Trillion. That does not sound cheaper to me.

There are people, for whatever reason, who choose not to be covered by insurance. And yes, there are people who cannot afford coverage who also do not qualify for Medicare or Medicaid. But the number of these individuals does not add up to the numbers the Administration and the proponents would have you believe. Their numbers include those who can afford coverage and choose not to buy it AND illegal aliens who the Democrats refuse to exempt from coverage under the “government option.”

Some on the left will say that I don’t want the poor to have health coverage. But those people refuse to acknowledge a few facts. The first being that I am not advocating cutting off those who currently receive government funded health care. On the contrary. I want to protect the quality (such as it is) of health care for those very same people. Those who suffer with government funded health coverage are already living under an impediment. The government compensates health care providers at such a low rate that many providers opt out of the government plans reducing the availability of quality care for those on the public system. Flooding this public system with more people will not improve the quality of care to those already on that system. If anything, it will reduce the quality of care through health care rationing due to the lack of quality providers accepting the public system.

The problem with health care in this country is medical malpractice lawsuits. Judges in this country can award damages to anyone whose scars don’t heal to their liking an unlimited amount of damages. Without serious tort reform in this country, health care costs will continue to rise and fewer people will decided that the health care field is worth all the years of study and all the debt that studying creates.

I’m sorry but the government does not have such a good track record when it comes to running things. For starters, how dependable is your mail delivery? The government runs that. How affective is the government run school systems? I would argue not affective at all. How well has this Congress and this Administration done so far with it’s efforts to stimulate the economy? 9.5% unemployment numbers nationally and 15.5% in the Democratic People’s Republic of Michigan are giving the President and his Congressional pals failing grades on this issue as well. Do you really want these same people running your health care system?

So to answer my title question, Health Care- Obama’s Folly or The Making of a President is simple. Whether his plan passes of fails, his Presidency is shot.

In The Shadow of Socialized Medicine

May 13, 2009 Communism, Health Care, News, Opinion, Stupidity, socialism Comments Off

Posted By GM Roper on May 13, 2009

Note: Reprinted with GM’s Permission

Generally speaking, most liberals are for single payer health care or some other form of socialized medical care, and most conservatives are not. This is fairly easy to understand as the majority of liberals believe that health care is too important to be left to the money grubbing big pharma companies and the selfish, money-grubbing, power-hungry doctors who think they are demigods.

Conservatives of course are much more rational. We understand that the liberal mindset cannot grasp the logical extension of their thinking. For example, If it is good social policy that the so called rich pay more than they should, repeat should be more than magnanimous and pay everything they make; you know the simplified IRS Form 1040:

Line 1 How much did you make……………………$_________

Line 1a Send it in!………………………………………..$_________

And of course the rest of us merely get a check based on our “fair share” of the pie.

Obama has already set that up in his “95% of you will get a tax cut” which leaves out the simple fact that 40% of us don’t pay taxes anyway and if Obama really does get his way, that means that those in that category will get a larger check from Uncle Sugar as Uncle Sam is known in some corners.

But I digress, this story is about medicine and not tax dollars (though by the end of this diatribe you will understand the connection between the two.)

I recently read via Glenn Reynolds that there is the possibility of rationing of health care – oh, excuse me, that is a buzz word hated by those who support single-payer health care (socialized medicine by another name) – I mean rationing Tamiflu and Relenza because the WHO (World Health Organization) says that if we aren’t careful about who gets it, we may well run out of if.

For the moment, let’s forget the running out of it part and concentrate on the lets decide who is gonna get it and when that happens, health care is being de facto rationed. And rationed care is not one bit better than what we currently have, except for who gets to decide who gets it. Lets be honest, there is not enough quality health care to go around in this world. Like it or not, that is a simple fact that even the most obtuse ought to be able to get their minds around.

Currently, the best health care is fettered by ability to pay or possession of some form of health “insurance” or by the charitable giving of time and resources by those that have the time and resources to give. That is one of the reasons that rationed care in say our neighbor to the north, Canada, has so many of it’s citizens coming to the United States for say MRIs or hip and knee replacements – care that we routinely accept as, well, routine. Of course, knee replacement costs money, but it is available to those on Medicare, Medicaid, or those with health insurance. And that of course means that it is rationed to those that can afford it – those without health insurance of some kind can either go without or pay for it out of pocket, and make no mistake, it ain’t cheap. In Canada, the wait for a “simple” knee replacement is perhaps greater than a 6 month period with poorer outcomes for those that waited longer where as in the United states, the wait time is 3 to 6 weeks and of course better outcomes.

Other medically necessary proceedures take longer in Canada than they do in the US, that is simple fact and the reason is simple, when the supply of dollars is limited, care must be rationed. Medicare for example is rapidly running out of dollars. According to the Obama administration, Medicare will run out of funds sooner than expected, as will Social Security:

In announcing the results of the trustees’ annual forecast with other Cabinet members, Treasury Secretary Timothy F. Geithner said, “The president explicitly rejects the notion that Social Security is untouchable politically.” Still, he reiterated that the administration intends to “work to build a bipartisan consensus to ensure the long-term solvency of Social Security” only after it collaborates with Congress to slow health-care spending and enable more Americans to obtain medical insurance.

You know, that’s pretty funny because conservatives have stated all along that Social Security and Medicare were going to be a massive drain and would be “in trouble” long before the Democrats decided that it was not an “untouchable” political third rail:

Congressional Republicans and some Democrats seized upon the findings to argue that the administration should work rapidly to ward off the looming insolvency of Social Security and Medicare. Sen. Judd Gregg (R-N.H.), who withdrew from nomination as Obama’s commerce secretary, said yesterday’s report shows that the recession is “accelerating the arrival of a massive, trillion-dollar entitlement crisis on our doorstep.” He added: “Trying to kick the can down the road will not make it go away. We need to take meaningful action now.” [emphasis added]

I distinctly remember the debate over the establishment of Medicare and Medicaid in 1964 and 1965 and the cost was “guaranteed” by Vice President Humphrey to stay “low.” Unfortunately for America, that cost was only a drop in the flood that these two entitlement programs would balloon to. Outlays for Medicare and Medicaid program are currently running to over $500,000.00 per household and the simple reason is that these programs have grown and grown and grown as “benefits” by a congress that wants to stay in power and it knowingly does so by handing out goodies gratis to the recipient but paid for by the American Taxpayer:

Taxpayers are on the hook for a record $57.3 trillion in federal liabilities to cover the lifetime benefits of everyone eligible for Medicare, Social Security and other government programs, a USA TODAY analysis found. That’s nearly $500,000 per household.

Those goodies will eventually result in significant rationing by a faceless bureaucracy. Will you get that new cancer treatment – no, not if you aren’t a special class. Will you get Tamiflu, again, no because that is suggested that it be rationed by WHO, and if you are a healthy productive member of society, don’t count on it because those of us that are at “higher risk” are likely to use up the supply if e.v.e.r.y.b.o.d.y. who wants it gets it.

I work hard for my living, and I have a great health insurance policy. I recently had an antibiotic prescribed that has a retail cost of $288.99 but I only paid $25.00. I’m also a cancer survivor, lung cancer in fact and I was an idiot smoker. What would have happened in the health nazi’s had said “Hey wait, we don’t give out anti-cancer drugs to those who smoked themselves into cancer.” Or maybe just denied because my best years are behind me? My beloved uncle recently had heart surgery paid for primarily by Medicare. He is in his (oh so very young) 80’s. Would he have been denied the surgery because he is “too old?”

But wait will say some, American Health Care isn’t so hot, in fact, the WHO rates US healthcare as 37th; below Costa Rica and Morroco. Morroco? Yeah, Morroco. Oh well, at least we beat Chad and Nigeria let alone Russia.

But there are significant problems with that ranking (last done 9 years ago because of the “complexity” of the problem.) Complexity? Heh, as Glenn Reynolds might say! One of the problems is of course, their methodology about which Dr. Chris Rangel note:

In the mockumentary ‘Sicko’, Michael Moore points out that despite spending the most on health care of any nation ($7,400 per capita), the US ranks near the bottom among industrialized countries and only two spots above Cuba (that spends $251 per capita). What rankings? In 2000 the World Health Organization came up with rankings for the health care systems of 190 countries.

The problem is that the WHO ranking has very little to do with the quality of health care as implied by ‘Sicko’ and by many liberals. Of several variables, only life expectancy is used as a measure of health care quality. But this is a bad measure of overall health care quality and does not correlate exactly with health care spending. This is due to the fact that there are multiple other variables other than health care that directly impact life expectancy.

Of course, we could offer health care like Cuba’s which Michael Moore extolled and which the WHO ranks 39th, only two lousy points below the US, but compare pictoral representations of the two:

Choose the hospital room on the left, or on the right. Your choice, choose carefully!

Normally Dem Friendly AP Calls Obama Out on Deficit Responsibility Denial

President Juggears attempted to shift blame for the escalating federal budget deficit onto his predecessor…

Obama -

“Number one, we inherited a $1.3 trillion deficit…. That wasn’t me. Number two, there is almost uniform consensus among economists that in the middle of the biggest crisis, financial crisis, since the Great Depression, we had to take extraordinary steps. So you’ve got a lot of Republican economists who agree that we had to do a stimulus package and we had to do something about the banks. Those are one-time charges, and they’re big, and they’ll make our deficits go up over the next two years.

However, the normally liberal friendly Associated Press isn’t buying it. In an unusual confirmation of just exactly how the federal government is defined by the United States Constitution, the AP reminds us…

Congress controls the purse strings, not the president, and it was under Democratic control for Obama’s last two years as Illinois senator. Obama supported the emergency bailout package in President George W. Bush’s final months – a package Democratic leaders wanted to make bigger.

To be sure, Obama opposed the Iraq war, a drain on federal coffers for six years before he became president. But with one major exception, he voted in support of Iraq war spending.

The AP even goes further confirming Republican and Conservative reminders that President Obamaramadingdong is actually making the economy worse with his “fix” for our nation’s financial woes.

The economy has worsened under Obama, though from forces surely in play before he became president, and he can credibly claim to have inherited a grim situation.

Still, his response to the crisis goes well beyond “one-time charges.”

He’s persuaded Congress to expand children’s health insurance, education spending, health information technology and more. He’s moving ahead on a variety of big-ticket items on health care, the environment, energy and transportation that, if achieved, will be more enduring than bank bailouts and aid for homeowners.

The nonpartisan Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget estimated his policy proposals would add a net $428 billion to the deficit over four years, even accounting for his spending reduction goals. Now, the deficit is nearly quadrupling to $1.75 trillion. – emphasis mine

For all the excuses that the AP makes for the man with the middle name Hussein in their article, they also are pointing out his disconnection with the truth. Which is in fact something that we on the right have been telling you since before YOU voted for him. YOU, the American voter, are responsible for what is happening with our country. YOU, allowed Barry the Wonder Turd to become POTUS in spite of questions that have gone unanswered to this day. YOU elected him without knowing who he is. And YOU buried your head in the sand when he began to show his colors before the election writing off verbal mistakes which gave us glimpses into his intent.

YOU, whether YOU voted for Barry the Wonder Turd or not, are equally guilty as those who did because YOU didn’t do enough to prevent his election. YOU, allowed him to get away with avoiding substantive debate and taking his eloquent speeches on face value.

By failing to demand answers to the questions about his place of birth and his associations with known domestic terrorists, racist pastors, and known Communists, YOU have failed the American people past, present, and future.

My conscience is clear. I did my part. I voted against him and wrote about him. I asked the questions to which I am still demanding answers to. Where were YOU?

I find it incredibly disconcerting that the AP – the liberal propagandists that they are – are doing more to counter Obamaramadingdong’s pretty speeches attempting to absolve himself of all culpability than YOU are. It is time to act. It’s actually past time to act but the time for burying your head in the sand is OVER.

With the defection of Arlen Spector to the Democrat Party the Senate Majority Leader has the super majority required to bypass the Will of the People. It is now more imperative than ever to take away that majority.

1/3 of the Senate is up for re-election next year. We need to either reduce that majority to make it possible for the Republicans to block harmful legislation (no matter how well intentioned) or regain the majority in the Senate. Every single House seat is up and it is possible – no matter how improbable – to regain the majority there as well.

We also need State Houses. For example – Ohio.

Commie Ted Strickland is up for re-election in 2010. If not for the corrupt way in which his predecessor governed, he would NOT have that office now. Ken Blackwell would. But that wasn’t in the cards thanks to Bob Taft. But Ohioans have a shot in 2010. If someone like John Kasich can be persuaded to run, he would be elected by the Buckeye State.

It is YOUR job to find qualified candidates in YOUR state to throw these Commie Bums OUT OF OFFICE. So get up off YOUR [three letter term for Democrats] and get it done.

Reid: Kowtow Or I’ll Eliminate You from the Legislative Process

Harry ‘the human sleeping pill” Reid is using political threats in an attempt to peel off RINO support for the massive socialist agenda of the Democrats – namely the Obama Budget, Universal Health Care, and Cap-And-Trade legislation. That’s the party of the working man for you, eliminate the minority in order to pass totalitarian legislation. But hell, you voted for it.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid is holding the option of using a legislative maneuver to create not only a sweeping overhaul of the nation’s health care system but also a controversial cap and trade energy program, a move that could torpedo bipartisanship.

The maneuver, known as “reconciliation,” protects legislation to which it’s attached from a Senate filibuster. Republicans, in their deep minority status, are in an uproar over the possibility that they will be all but eliminated from the legislative process. SOURCE

The 2006 and 2008 gains made by Congress are even more damaging than electing our new Dictator-in-Chief. By electing Democrats to such huge majorities in the House and Senate, the Republican Minority has virtually no ability to stop harmful legislation from passing. Hence the Porkulus, or as I have affectionately named it – The Democrat Lard Act of 2009.

Any legislation which the majority knows it cannot get any Republican defections to support, can be labeled “Reconciliation” and bypass the rules of cloture. For a party who brought the use of cloture rules during the years of Republican control to an art-form, it seems a bit hypocritical of the current majority to abandon the much touted “rights of the minority” battle-cry that they employed when they were the minority.

But Republicans are not alone in their opposition. A sizable number of Democrats have protested the move; first and foremost, Budget Committee Chairman Kent Conrad, D-N.D., who excluded it from his committee’s budget passed Thursday.

So concerned about the possibility of it being used, Sens. Robert Byrd, D-W.V., and Mike Johnanns, R-Neb., sent a letter of strong protest to the majority leader.

As opponents of proposed cap and trade measures, Byrd, the Senate’s most senior member and lead watchdog of Senate rules and decorum, and Johanns told Reid, “Enactment of a cap-and-trade regime is likely to influence nearly every feature of the U.S. economy.

“Legislation so far-reaching should be fully vetted and given appropriate time for debate, something the budget reconciliation process does not allow. Using this procedure would circumvent normal Senate practice and would be inconsistent with the Obama dministration’s stated goals of bipartisanship, cooperation, and openness,” they wrote.

Conrad and Byrd are not the only Senate Democrats opposed to using reconciliation. Sen. Ben Nelson, D-Neb., said he is prepared to vote against the final budget if it returns from House-Senate negotiations with the restriction.

Nelson is part of a group of 15 moderate Democrats concerned about levels of spending and growing deficits. They are set to meet Tuesday to discuss how to move forward on the budget.

Sen. Judd Gregg, R-N.H., top Republican on the Budget Committee, said Wednesday that reconciliation is not always a bad thing. He supported it when President Bill Clinton wanted tax increases to pay down the debt. But Gregg draws the line at creating major changes in environment and health care laws.

“When you are taking the entire health system of the United States, restructuring it, changing it fundamentally, moving it to the left significantly, basically nationalizing it for all intents and purposes … without any opportunity for changes on the floor of the Senate, well, you might as well not have a Senate. You might as well just have a House of Representatives. It totally undermines the purposes of the two branches of government,” Gregg told FOX News. SOURCE

It will take a minimum of 10 Democrat Senators to reject legislation that Reid successfully labels “Reconciliation”. Should only 9 vote with Republicans to reject the legislation, Reid can call upon Big Mouth Joe to cast his vote in order to break the tie. Anyone besides me smell the foul odor of abuse coming from the Majority Leader’s office?

If permitted to abuse the rules governing “Reconciliation”, Reid’s majority is abandoning Democratic principles and permitting the death of the Republic. A dangerous proposition to say the least. When Sen. Robert C. Byrd sides with the GOP you KNOW there has got to be something rotten in Reid’s office. And its name is Harry Reid.

Both Congressional bodies passed bills independent of each other that include two different and massively expensive approaches on how to implement the President’s Death Care plan. The Rush on Death Care is an Alinsky Tactic

August 8, 2009

Since an estimated 80% of the population already has health care coverage, the rush to pass the Obama/Pelosi/Waxman/Reid Death Care package can only have one reason – overwhelm the system. Saul Alinsky said in his ‘Rules for Radicals’ – RULE 4: “Make the enemy live up to its own book of rules.” If the rule [...]

Newsweek: ‘Recession Over’ as GDP Sits at -1%

July 31, 2009

They created the current recession by convincing you it existed when it didn’t. Now, one of the leftarded media outlets [...]

Health Care – Obama’s Folly or The Making of a President?
